Trading next year's 6th RD pick for Rolando McClain is going to be a steal.

IRVING, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys will be more than happy to give up their sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in 2015 for what Rolando McClain has meant to their success in 2014.

Because McClain will play in more than 50 percent of the defensive snaps, the Cowboys will fork over their sixth rounder to the Ravens, while getting Baltimore’s seventh-round pick in return, as per the July trade between the clubs.

The Cowboys made a low-risk deal that could have cost them nothing in return. In desperate need to find a replacement for Sean Lee, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in May, the Cowboys simply hoped McClain could regain some of the form that made him the eighth pick of the 2010 draft for the Oakland Raiders. He had retired twice and his time with the Raiders did not go well.

Jason Garrett reached out to his former boss and McClain’s coach at Alabama, Nick Saban. Jerry Jones reached out to McClain while on vacation in Turkey.

It could not have worked out any better.

They go unmentioned in the article but I think a good deal of credit should be given to Rod Marinelli and Matt Eberflus also. They helped Rolando McClain flourish in this defense.

Absolute steal anyway, one of the best come-back stories for sure. Even if he doesn't play for us next year, I think it was worth it - without him I shudder to think of early season struggles on defense.
Would LOVE to resign this guy. He brings muscle and athletic instinct to the linebacking core. If LEE could stay healthy and combine his smarts and technique with McClain's raw power and ability - man what a potential combo (not leaving out Hitchens either as he is quickly becoming a pet cat, and plays with some strength too). Durant impressed me this year too, and would love him and the already mentioned 3 to be our 4 man core for the lb'ers.... I wonder if we can get "discounts" from McClain and Durant and/or at least safeguards put into McClain's contract should the fire go out again....

Thanks Jerry, for listening Jason and the Nick Saben connection.
Now after the season, resign him prior to FA period starts.

A fantastic trade, and we need to keep him around to play with Sean Lee next year.

Was it McClain that was in Turkey or was it Jerry Jones?

I suppose a man with money must vacation in Turkey!

Yeah, that should propel them to championship status again. They are celebrating big time in B'Mo. I like that we got the best end of that deal. :)
