I work for a Property Management Company right now while I am trying to buy a local business from a long time friend. I hate the banks right now. They are idiots.

My job is basically Supervision of the Maintenance crews for the various communities that the company manages.

I was on a property this afternoon to do an inspection of an apartment that was an eviction for drugs and non payment of rent. I walk in this apartment and it is unreal. Trash everywhere. Moldy bread. A measuring cup with some soured milk on the floor. Holes in the walls everywhere.

So I'm walking through this place making notes of how much my guys are going to have to do, how long before it is a rentable unit again, etc.

I walk into the bedroom and I am checking out the closet area and there is puppy poop everywhere.

I turn around to leave and this little wobbly legged puppy is behind me. They left the puppy! It looks like it's part chocolate Labrador and part shepherd.

I picked this puppy up and he was trembling. I look around. No food or water. At least the Air was still on in the apartment.

I went down to the Office and I said, "that apartment was still occupied." The manager turned around and saw the puppy and she was as mad as me.

We got the puppy some food and water. All kinds of kids came in the office to see him. Everybody was talking about what to do with him. Finally the Manager's daughter-in-law says that if no one objects she will take the puppy. She has 2 boys whose Dad just left them and their Mom to shack up with some other woman. The people that left the puppy were some of his druggie friends. Junior is 7 or 8 and Nick is 4.

So we took the puppy to see his new kids. Nick looked up at his Mom and said, "can we name him Gizmo?"

The story is going to have a happy ending but right now I want to punch the people who lived there right in the mouth.

Thank heavens I was asked to do that inspection today.

Animal cruelty drives me crazy too. Sounds like the puppy was higher up on the evolutionary scale than his owners.

That's so sad. I love those Animal Cops shows on Animal Planet, but they make me tear up all the time thinking that people would do this to these animals.

I'm all for locking these people up with no food and water and see how they like it. Screw their "rights"...

There isn't much in this world that makes me as sick to my stomach as animal cruelty.

I may take a camera tomorrow so you guys can see what I mean. This puppy is probably only 6 to 8 weeks old.

I could not believe it when I saw him.

Hostile, in 1990 when my wife and I were looking for a house, we went to see one that the realtor had told us to check out...the front door is open.

We went in and looked around...needed some clean up, some things like the cabinets and fridge needed cleaning, stuff like that.

Then we went into the garage and found a mother cat and four kittens dead as hell. It broke my heart to see that.

We ended up just building our own house.

I told the realtor about what we saw and she was like, "Oh...I did not see that...?"

When I was about 16 I was a lifeguard at the local swimming pool. One day this boxer comes to the pool and is so excited to see me. Great dog, very friendly. I started calling him Bubba and I took him with me all over the place.

That night I was at the school with some of my friends shooting baskets and the people who owned him came to get him. They dragged him back home. It was like he didn't want to leave.

Next day he comes and finds me at the pool again. I took him everywhere again. Later on I took him home since I now knew where he lived because the people had come to get him. I watched them tie him up and I noticed that his food and water was about 2 feet beyond the slack of the rope.

I was more than a little pissed off.

Next day he came to find me again. By this time I felt like he was more my dog than theirs. I was feeding him, playing with him, taking him with me.

That night we were shooting hoops again and the family came to get Bubba. This time they were extremely rude and threatened to have me arrested if they ever caught me with their dog again. I tried to explain that the dog was finding me, not me taking the dog. Lots of threats.

This time I was seething mad and I went home immediately. I told my Mom to find Bubba a home that very night and tell them to expect me with the dog sometime that night. I knew he couldn't come home with me and he was not going to stay with those horrible people either.

I got dressed all in black and got a knife. I watched their house from the bushes in the desert until all the lights were off. About 30 minutes later I snuck into the yard, untied the rope, and took Bubba.

When I got home it was after midnight. My Mom was worried sick. I said, "where is he going?" I took him then and there to a very nice older couple named Buck and Naomi. They had stayed up waiting. I knew they would. They lived about 20 miles from our town, but the troubling thing for me was it was on the bus route to school. I was always worried one of the kids would see the dog as we went by.

About 3 weeks after school started (about 3 months after I stole the dog) I was sitting on the bus with one of those kids and we passed by the Chadburn's house and there was Bubba (they changed his name to Buddy because they called one the grandsons Bubba) and their dog Smokey out with Buck getting the mail.

I pointed the dog out to Pepe and said, "you guys used to have one of those dogs. I liked him. Whatever happened to him?" Pepe said the dog was always running away and one time he just never came back. They didn't know what happened to him. I was releived that he didn't recognize the dog or suspect anything.

Buddy lived to be almost 15.

I have never felt one day's remorse for having stolen that dog and I don't believe in stealing.

Awesome story Hos. That's exactly how I'd hope most people would react to a situation like that. Great job Hos.

Not enough. :D

I'm actually writing a fiction book right now. I might use a version of this in it for kicks.

Nick asking if he could name the dog Gizmo really got me. I will try to remember to take my camera tomorrow.

Nothing makes me more upset that cruelty to our pets.

There was a dog this past winter i would see out and about the neighbor hood, with only a collar, no tags. I thought whose dog was this? I would give the dog water and food as he she was a little thin She was trained, would sit and give paw. One day I put a t-shirt on her (it was cold) and wrote, " help me find my owners ". I was hesitant to call animal control because what if no one came for dog. I was feeling very conflicted. I was talking to one of my neighbors and they told me they had seen the dog and found out who the owners were and returned the dog a few times. The owners were not very thankful, just like, "ok, thanks "

I had not seen the dog for awhile and I saw my neighbor one day. She said the dog was out and was hit by a school bus and died. The other part of the tragedy was an elementary school boy who was on the bus and cried, " That's my dog."

It made me so irate. I wanted to go to their $850,000 house and give them hell but other people talked me out of it. To this day, I question if I should have done something else.

Unfortunately, there are people who believe that pets are simply disposable objects with little regard for their well being. I've dealt with more than my fair share of pet "owners" who have little regard for the animals. Here's hoping Gizmo will have a happy life from here on in.
