The reason is simple. They are 2-0 in the division and we are 1-1. If they are 3-0 and we are 1-2 that is a hill we don't want to climb.

So, let's hear your theories on how to get the job done. How do we beat the Giants?

I'd love to see a serious football thread with no baiting and whining, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Key #1, we have to make Eli beat us not Tiki Barber. Now, Eli is capable of doing this, but we cannot allow Tiki to give them a ball control edge. This also means that we put Eli under a lot of pressure. We need to hit him like he stole something. Pressure, pressure, pressure.

Key #2, we can't allow the Giants DE's to get on track with their QB sacks and pressure. This is something we have to focus on and keep Bledsoe upright in this game more than most others we play.

Key #3, for the love of all that's holy, we have to quit inviting the yellow laundry. The penalties are mental errors more than physical errors and that is a trend we can't afford.

Key #4, Julius and Barber need to average 4.5 yards per carry and catch a few passes. The Giants LBs will over pursue, that means screens and draws can be huge for us.

Key #5, we need to take the ball away, but not give it away. Always a key IMO.

Key #6, lastly we cannot get caught up in another hype game like the Eagles. Yeah, it's MNF but that doesn't mean we need players hamming for the spotlight. Just do your jobs and win the game. That's so much more important that shining for the bright lights.

we must stop tiki barber

tiki barber kills us every year it seems.

we must control strahan and osi.

julius and barber must have big days.

our secondary will keep their receivers at bay.

we must pressure eli with extreme prejudice.

the one player i'm worried about is brandon jacobs..
need to keep an eye on him.

The key to keeping this under wraps, we're going to have to spread that defensive line out.

You're really not leaving much room for discussion here Hos.

If we were to accomplish any 4 of your assessments (athough protecting Bledsoe may be a requisite), we win.

I think so too, but let's discuss how they can be accomplished. Pick any one and draw blood.

You know, until you said this, I thought it was on the road.

That makes it even more vital that we win. Add to this we start a 3 game road swing right after this game and on short rest for game 1 against a team like we have already lost both games to, and it is even more critical.

I can forgive penalties that hustle costs you. That isn't what we're doing. Liek Skyler Green's fair catch foul. That's pure mental booboo. The multiple face masks were ridiculous.

Can't have it against the Giants.

Some things unmentioned:

1) Don't allow the big pass. For some reason, Shockey and Burress always seem to do well against us. That can't happen.

2) Don't let their front four get pressure. Regardless of the QB, we need to stop their front four and complete passes, and then, when they finally decide to blitz, burn them with hot reads (crazy thought, I know). Do this and Jones can run on them.

3) ST - this needs to be a good field position game.

4) Beat a quality opponent at home and look good doing it. This could do wonders for our season. We'll see though. We will need something good going into Carolina.

My game plan is instructing #31 to turn Opie Manning into a eunuch.

Roy Williams, your mission is to blast Eli back to Heehawville.

Oh man, that is so true CR. We can't give them any kind of momentum and those plays do exactly that.

Our team doesn't do well with momentum. We are seldom able to rebound from large mistakes, for some reason or another. If Eli and Plax/Shockey/Toomer get into rythym, our coaches will have a heckuva day trying to change it up in a way to work it correctly.

Mostly because our coaches have a heckuva time changing anything up.

We did come from behind on the Eagles in their house more than once. But you can't rely on that happening. That's suicide.

But we never truly got the momentum on our side. We did that on pure talent. If we had any momentum on that `ygame, we would have actually won.

I know we will want to keep the ball away from them, but their secondary is begging to be attacked. They are starting to rack up some sacks the last couple of weeks. We have a pronounced advantage outside. I do look for more max protect stuff since we won't be facing the Texans.

Monday night we will need a strong home crowd. This is a game we can not afford to lose. Divisional games at home are always must-wins, but when you have teams in the conference like St. Louis and New Orleans getting out to fast starts, it makes these events all that more important.

I expect Carolina and Seattle to be playoff teams, but when these unexpecteds start cropping up then it's even more important to put these home games in the win column.

This is absolutely our defensive key to the game. Having Ellis at OLB is huge in this game...its like having the 3-4 and the 4-3 at the same time. We can't let Tiki get outside. Save the multiple screens we'll certainly see, I think we can do this. Ware has become fairly adept at turning runners inside, so the onus goes to James and Ayodele. If those two can play particularly well and shadow Tiki, its going to put alot of pressure on Eli, Burress, and Shockey. Unfortunately, those three have had big games against us as well. I don't think Shockey is particularly threating for an entire game...he seems deadly in short spurts, but can be shut down for large portions of games. Burress won't kill us with multiple receptions, but he may get that deep ball or attract a few P.I.'s or illegal contacts. Watkin's head needs to be in the right spot in this game.

Our lack of pressure today is somewhat disturbing. Even though the Texan's have shored up their protection some this year, its still a game that we should be getting to the QB. It didn't bother me so much against the Titans and Philly, but we've got to make Elli uncomfortable. I'd feel ok sending Williams on a few early blitzes if Watkins feels good about himself.

Key #2, we can't allow the Giants DE's to get on track with their QB sacks and pressure. This is something we have to focus on and keep Bledsoe upright in this game more than most others we play.

Every game with TO in a cowboys uniform = hype game. They're all gunning for us...moreso than usual.

I've been waiting for this.

I totally agree. We need to exploit them deep early and often so it opens up the underneath stuff. Not only can you get by their CBs, they tend to get PI penalties in bunches. I'd gladly take some laundry on the other guys for a change.

Rattle Eli early and often, he is typically a slow starter so if turnovers can be forced early the running game might have to be abandoned. The rundefense, knock on wood, is a bright spot. Double cover Plaxico and dare them to throw elsewhere, especially over the middle where Roy Williams and apparently lately greg Ellis now roam.
