When your top 2 corners are among the top 5 in the conference.....i mean look at all the teams in the conference...and all the corners

T New n Jenkins by coaches, players and fans, got enough votes to make them top 5......

i dont care what anyone says, they got in due to injury, or this guy didnt want to go, or super bowl...ect ect....

Newman i was hard on him at the start of the season, but he really turned it around, and has shut down his side quietly...Jenkins shut his side down, but with more noise

people calling for newman's head, over a few plays here and there, but we are truely lucky to have these 2 guys, and a developing scandrick.....they are the reason our D has been so good....we always wanted a guy too come in and play too newmans level..or better..and we go that..now look at our D

When we had Henry and reeves playing with newman, our D was a joke...Now all we need is a play making, ball hawking, fast safety..please jerry?

They're actually in the top seven, not top five. There were three players chosen (Charles Woodson, Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) and two alternates (Antoine Winfield and Sheldon Brown) ahead of Newman and Jenkins.

It also should be pointed out that neither Newman nor Jenkins finished in the top five in the fan voting, so it's not like it was just the fans' votes who made them alternates. Tracy Porter finished in the top five of the fan votes but wasn't even an alternate.

Thanks for the clarifications, Adam.

Still a good sign nonetheless. We're far, far better at the top three spots at cornerback than we've been in a looong time. Newman is slowing down, but he is undoubtedly a high quality No. 2 cornerback. I laugh at those wanting to get rid of him. No. 2 corners don't grow on trees and the last thing we need to do is deplete a quality position just because he's no longer a No. 1 corner like he's paid.

And when you have two Pro Bowl quality pass rushers like we have in Ware and Spencer, having a pair of Pro Bowl quality corners to on the back end is pretty rare. Seems like teams usually have one or the other, but not both.

We are good on the outside, but slow on the inside and this is where most teams attacked us.

We need to get better defending on passes against the middle and to RBs and TEs. No one really ran against us with much success outside of Cadillac Williams in the first game of the year.

I would like one dynamic ILB (maybe JWill becomes this guy in a couple of years) and one safety who can lock up against the best TEs and shadow them. We'll be much better once these issues are resolved. We had Brooking and James out there way too much in passing situations.

A ballhawk FS would improve our defese beyond belief, seriously.

No TE beat us, Carpenter and Sensy.

with newmann...u really have to consider his age and past injury status. Dallas should definitely protect the team and draft another CB.

When you're #2 in the league in scoring D and even better than that later in the year, pretty much everyone on D was pretty good. People can say that such-and-such individual player sucks beyond belief, but it isn't true or he would be attacked by offenses and/or benched.

The biggest thing for me is how much better we were without Henry. I always liked Henry, but I was watching a game from a couple of years ago, and it was shocking what an improvement Jenkins is over AH even with the very limited experience.

All I know is, it feels pretty good to know that we have a head coach and staff who recognizes talent and can coach up these young guys. Of course some mistakes will always be made because no one is perfect, but now instead of worrying about if the brain trust is making the right decisions, I can just sit back and enjoy the process of the young guys being worked in. Right now we have a nice little pipeline of the Butlers, the Mike Hamlins, and the Williams boys just waiting to get on the field. And we'll add to that (hopefully a guy or two up front) in April.

And Ratliff!

That's what has me so juiced for 2010. When you look for the most difficult type players to find, the players that have the greatest impact.......we have them right where you want them.

In a perfect world where I was fortunate enough to have 5 PB type players to allocate to my 3-4 defense, I'd set them at NT, OLB, CB, OLB, CB.

It really is amazing that we have 5 players ranging from legit All-Pro to borderline Pro-Bowler at those 5 spots.

Just my opinion, but I believe if you polled a bunch of personel guys to rank the impact of the starting 11 defenders on a 3-4, you'd probably get something like NT, OLB, CB, OLB, CB.
I also think they'd rank our top 5 players as: Ratliff, Ware, Jenkins, Spencer, Newman.

Now add to that perhaps one of the best DC in football.

We better rank top 3 in points, yards, sacks and forced turnovers for 2010.
