It will take at least two years to fix the defense

Carter has no instincts? That couldn't be further from the truth. The guy was absolutely lights out last season. Everyone knew it was going to take him, and most of the other defenders, a season to get used to a new scheme. No on expected it to be this bad, but at the same time no one expected to lose 75% of the front seven.

I give Carter and Claiborne one more season. Before his last injury Claiborne was really starting to turn a corner. I think if we stick with a press scheme and just let him play, he becomes our best DB.

Agree. Press for a healthy Claiborne, and ILB for Carter. He is quick, and made some very nice tackles last year.

It's a shame he regressed this year

Hatcher is going for the $ and will surely be gone. The cuboards completely bare. Probably the weekest position besides OLB.

Claiborne has soft written all over him. And they could have had a starting DT and a LB had they stayed put. Thats on Jerry all day.

Carter has no instincs. Great athlete. If someone steals your purse, he'll catch'em.

Wilber seems too big to play 4-3 OLB. Does he fit anywhere?

It seems DeMarcus has peaked. He's not a DE. getting alot of $$$$

The linebacking is a huge issue. The guys they're trotting out there now have a couple career tackles. Do they spend the entire draft on DE, DT, OLB, DE, DT, OLB?

I wouldn't put Carter inside solely because Lee is the best MLB in the game when healthy. I move Carter to the weak side, where he isn't worried about covering tight ends.

I agree. You have like nine holes to fill, and you have Jerry filling them. You need a new D co-ordinator, with probably Jerry picking him. Oh and your best player is made of glass, and last played a full season his soph year of college. Other than that it is a great D.

Did the OP have a point other than to complain?

A plan?

Analysis?

Draft focus?

Scheme thoughts?

Anything?

I would like to see them just go in heavy on the d-line. If you could even draft an anchor to stop the run I think you could be more flexible with your coverages on the back end. Stopping the run consistently with 6-7 guys in the box will allow you to start doubling guys and suddenly everything improves.

Who said 8?

They probably need about 4 including Ware's replacement.

Hopefully at least half of the injured players can remain healthy next season (i.e. Lee, Claiborne, Crawford, Bass, Durant, etc..).

Need all 4 dl need 3 lbs and a fs and a cb. Kess only good for 8 games a year we need a good back up. Durant and carter are weak.

The o-line is far from fixed. I'd like to see a 3rd round investment on a guard. Leary's knee will not hold up many years. We could fix our defense with round 1/2 being DT if we landed both. I think we'll be able to sign a FA to play DE and get decent production. If Lee and Carter could ever stay healthy.. next year we could easily repair this defense.

I'm curious as to how Mo would perform if moved to Safety. He's got great ball skills, he just gets beat like a drum in coverage. Maybe he'd be a better Safety than CB. It's a long shot, and it would take a whole season to really learn the position though. That's a big leap. Who knows, I'm just spit-balling here. But if he keeps getting beat by every WR he plays, something's going to need to change.
