agreed, Dez is a beast but rather have a two 1st round picks then a receiver making 17 million a year, that's more than 10% of the cap!

Yup, when you over pay vets it gets your team in trouble quick. I love Dez but he needs to stop trying to be so greedy.

I love when people catch up to things I said a year ago.

I'd love to have Dez with us this year. I think this team could win a super bowl, that being said, you don't let him hold your team hostage. Trade him and save the money and get picks in his place. See if a team will give us two first, or a first and a 2nd.

You move Street up to 3rd receiver and start Beasley and Williams, maybe use Escobar more, I don't know, you just don't let one player hold you hostage or hold your cap hostage.

Trade arguably our best player because he and his agent started high on contract negotiations, a month before training camp opens? On the idea scale, I'm gonna say that's on the horrible side.

Because he is drinking the KOOL-AID about terrance williams...UNREAL i have to say.

Trade 88...I love him...my fav since Irvin....but 17mm is ridiculous. Trade his butt to the Saints for Mark Ingram and next year's 2nd, then go out and sign Da'rick Rogers who just got cut by the Chiefs. Dooley knows him from his Tenn days...Mark Ingram and Rogers, Williams, and Beasley as your top 3....I could live with that...

Well, that is thinking outside the box I'll give you credit for that.

I think it belongs in a box...a well padded box....

Folks, folks, folks......

Can we please wait until July 16th before we take anything too seriously? These are the witching hours of negotiations. This next month will be a bit tense. THANKFULLY, our beloved team isn't just handing out contracts like candy anymore.

Dez asks for the moon. Stephen offers a bag of Funyans and a Mountain Dew. Nothing is too outrageous right now.

Worst case, Dez is the second highest paid receiver in football this season under the franchise tag. He won't sit out games. What's the point? They can't negotiate after July 15th anyway.

The only leverage that Dez and his agent have is to get "fans" to over-react and somehow put pressure on the team. He has no option other than playing under the Franchise Tag. The holdout talk is just talk.

You are now helping Dez and his agent by doing exactly what they hoped would happen. Good job freaking out. This reminds me of a quote sometimes attributed to PT Barnum.

Ingram and a 2nd would be horrible value in return. Dooley kicked Rogers out at Tenn.

It was a dumb idea at that time and time has not changed it from being a dumb idea.

What?

Some of you act like you've never heard the term "negotiations" before.

In negotiations, you always drive your price up, hoping to settle at a price above the lowest offer.

So Chillax, guys.
Back away from the ledge,
Move away from the cliff,
Remove the lone bullet from the chamber,
Take the barrel out of your mouth,
Flush the cyanide capsule down the commode.

Dez isn't going anywhere.

He'll never have as bright a spotlight as he does with the Cowboys. He likely won't get the same support structure he will with the Cowboys. And he loves being here.

He'll come to his senses and come home when all is said and done.

Order of preference

  1. Sign Dez to a reasonable long term deal
  2. Franchise Dez in 2015 then a reasonable deal
  3. Franchise Dez in 2015 and 2016, then sign for a lower deal
  4. Franchise Dez in 2015 and 2016, then let him walk
  5. Sign Dez to a slightly unreasonable deal but nowhere near what they probably want
  6. Allow Dez to walk..no match...and take the compensation
  7. Accept a great trade for Dez
  8. Sign Dez for what they are probably asking

You pay elite players. This isn't about giving a productive #2 s giant deal. It is about paying one of the best WR in the game top dollar.

As to being "cap hostages," do you really think 17 mill vs say 14 mill a year creates a hostage situation? That 3 mill difference is chump change in the face of the overall (and constantly rising) cap.

Oh yeah - your replacement plan stinks too. We'd be awful.

You pay for value, you don't overpay for value.

There are a lot of ways to win, not just one. We'd be awful? Who was Seattle's top receiver last year? Please remind me.

I was just thinking. Yes it randomly happens.
Say in 2 years Calvin Johnson is gone from the NFL or his contract is reduced.
Larry Fitzgerald is also on a reduced contract.
Say no other WR's get big contracts other than those from this year.
Now where does that leave DEZ after 2 franchise tagged years in what the benchmark value for a top WR. Unless he plays every game.

They (Valley Ranch) were close to a deal last year with Dez, looks like in hindsight we really dropped the ball as a front office. Same metric would of applied to DeMarco Murray last year at a more reasonable rate. This is a big screw up on Stephen Jones plate considering how it should've been done before Thanksgiving 2014. He loses one star for this negotiation. I hope Stephen has learned his lesson on this one like Jerry did on the Roy Williams WR trade and sign.
