ITS: Before hiring a DC in Dallas for 2025, hire Troy Aikman as GM

I’ve seen nothing to suggest Aikman is qualified and just because Jerry sucks doesn’t make Aikman qualified.

Aikman has forgotten more about football than Jerry has learned in his 30 years of failure.

I’m not saying he’s qualified to be a GM, but neither is Jerry. That’s more than apparent now.

Look at the last 2 players turned GMs and what their teams have done.

Even if AIkman isn'[t the GM that brings a Superbowl here, at least you TRIED... and if Aikman doesn't work, you TRY AGAIN.

If you want to win a Superbowl, you have to have an active GM who is intentional and ruthless about improving the team. I've yet to see a team win a Superbowl with an owner who is the GM and who is spending half the time on the team and half the time on other businesses. If Troy doesn't work out, you know what you do? Find ANOTHER GM.

There has to be accountability.

Also, how is Aikman's talent evaluation? I know this is one example but certainly had high praise for Josh Rosen.

He also had a big hand in getting UCLA to hire Chip Kelly.

But compared to Jerry, of course we'd want it. Jerry is the lowest of bars.

I’d prefer someone qualified or at least has been in a qualified front office.

If you're bringing in Aikman, i would much prefer him in the role of Vice President in charge of football operations.

Let him use his connections to fill out a front office and be held responsible for them. He can then select the GM, who then selects the coach and down the line etc..

• Troy Aikman is very knowledgeable about how the modern NFL works and what kind of complimentary talent is needed fora team to win in the playoffs. Jerry still thinks it’s 1995 and has proven for three decades he does not know how to construct an NFL roster that wins playoff games.
• Why would Aikman be better? For one thing he would different. We know what Jerry cannot do. He’s proven it. Troy could be given 5 years to fix it or bring someone else in.

I don’t care if it’s Troy or someone else. We just need a change at the top of this thing or we are headed for the same iceberg than sinks the Titanic every season with Captain Jones at the helm.

that is what I think too. Exactly. Let him set the tone. Establish the guidelines. He and he alone hires the GM. Collectively the two decide on a head coach. Then the head coach picks his staff. The GM and VP may offer input, but the choice is for the head coach.
All hypothetical of course because we have the best man for the position of GM of the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry even said so.

Jerry will never hire a great HC and especially never a great GM because he must 24/7 be the centerpiece of this franchise. As long as he is breathing he will fill that role.

In essence, this entire discussion is an exercise in futility because Jerry Jones will never cede power. Troy Aikman’s abilities or inabilities as an NFL executive will never be witnessed here.
