Since its bye week, so draft nerds like myself can look ahead and think about the draft ... like we can help ourselves.

My dream Cowboys draft at this point...

Round 1: DE/OLB Elvis Dumervil, Louisville ... 20 sacks this season. The next Terrel Suggs. The missing piece to a dominant Cowboys 3-4 defense.

Round 2: OT Andrew Whitworth, LSU ... would have been a 1st round pick last year, but a the deepest OT class in recent memory combined with his likely inability to play left tackle drops him to Round 2.

Round 3: QB Omar Jacobs ... He's had a injury filled year which has dropped his stock. Maybe the one time 1st round pick drops to the 3rd round.

Round 4: (Traded to Philly in the Canty deal)

Round 5: S DWayne Slay, Texas Tech ... 6'4" 215 lbs. Poor man's Sean Taylor http://media.putfile.com/DwayneSlay Uhmm .. .yeah.

Round 6, pick 1 (pick obtained by the Jets for Pete Hunter): WR Michael Robinson, Penn State ... raw, converted scrambling QB who has good size/speed combination, and good run after the catch ability.

Round 6, pick 2 (obatined from the Eagles in the Canty deal): C Pat Ross Boston College ... Cowboys need a replacement for Gurode who walks in free agency. Can't have enough Boston College offensive linemen.

Round 6, pick 3 (Cowboys pick) .. traded to KC in the Fujita trade.

Round 7 .. K Jon Scrifes SW Missouri .. best K in a weak draft class for the position. Also kickoffs and punts.

Dumervil is a handful. I don't know how he projects to the NFL, but you can't argue the production.

I really like Bobby Carpenter of Ohio State.

Whitworth in 2 would be a solid pick.

I don't think Robinson is going to be around in the 6th round. Living in PA I get to see alot of him, and he's going to be good as a WR/RB in the NFL. He's very strong as well, he runs at least one defender over in every game.

My dream picks:
1) Santonio Holmes - reminds me a lot of Glenn, I really have been impressed by him this year. makes huges plays and would be excellent alongside Crayton.
2) OT - maybe whitworth, Colledge from BC a couple other guys might be here, extremely deep OT this year.
3) FS - charlie peprah would be a great choice for FS, and would compete with Beriault for the starting job next year.
the rest we need a kicker, center/guard depth.

Im gonna guess you mean Omar Jacobs and if we got him in the 3rd i'd be doing backflips. 41/4 td/int ratio. big and strong and is athletic. Seems like a good decision maker and has all the measurables, just needs a bit of mechanics work. I know im gonna be minority, but I wouldnt even mind taking this guy in the second round if we had to. He can sit behind Bledsoe and learn and then be ready to play when he needs to. He reminds me a bit of Leftwich just a little less polished but more athletic.

I would love to see us get Slay! He is a stud at safety. I could not imagine he and Roy lining up at safety together. With the coverage skills of our corners and those two monsters at safety...

Round 1: DE/OLB Elvis Dumervil, Louisville ... 20 sacks this season. The next Terrel Suggs. The missing piece to a dominant Cowboys 3-4 defense.

Not sure we really need him and he’ll likely be gone anyway. Ware should get better and Fujita should get better as well as he gets more reps. Kalen Thornton will be back and with the way Shanle is playing, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them move Burnett to LOLB to compete. Plus, Singleton will be around to be a nice backup.

Round 2: OT Andrew Whitworth, LSU ... would have been a 1st round pick last year, but a the deepest OT class in recent memory combined with his likely inability to play left tackle drops him to Round 2.

I think O-Line is an issue, but OT becomes less of one if Pettiti is decent throughout the rest of the year and Tucker continues to play well. I’m more concerned about the guards because of the age of Allen and Rivera, plus I’m not satisfied with center. I’d prefer them to go after a guy who has played center and guard in college here.

Round 3: QB Omar Easy ... He's had a injury filled year which has dropped his stock. Maybe the one time 1st round pick drops to the 3rd round.

I think you meant Omar Jacobs. Personally, I’ve been thoroughly unimpressed with Jacobs. His arm isn’t as good as advertised, weird throwing motion, and doesn’t throw the deep ball accurately. He’s also coming out of a system that appears more and more gimmicky each week. I doubt Charlie Whitehurst will be available in round 3, but if he is and Dallas takes him, I’d do a backflip.

Round 5: S DWayne Slay, Texas Tech ... 6'4" 215 lbs. Poor man's Sean Taylor http://media.putfile.com/DwayneSlay Uhmm .. .yeah.

I’d like a true cover free safety as they really don’t have that. Sure, Pile is playing well but we only have 1 INT by our safeties at this point.

Round 6, pick 1 (pick obtained by the Jets for Pete Hunter): WR Michael Robinson, Penn State ... raw, converted scrambling QB who has good size/speed combination, and good run after the catch ability.

I don’t have a problem with him as a pick this late per say. But, I think they need a WR who is a good return guy in round 2. Have to build up for the future with Glenn and Keyshawn getting long in the tooth.

Round 6, pick 2 (obatined from the Eagles in the Canty deal): C Pat Ross Boston College ... Cowboys need a replacement for Gurode who walks in free agency. Can't have enough Boston College offensive linemen.

Yeah, at this point I’m thinking more O-Line help.

Round 7 .. K Jon Scrifes SW Missouri .. best K in a weak draft class for the position. Also kickoffs and punts
.

Is he related to Mike Scifres? If so, that’s at least some good blood lines. If Dallas can just get a kicker who hits 80% of his field goals and about 65% from 40-49 yards, I’d be happy.

I think they also need to look at CB with Aaron Glenn being 33 years old and Jacques Reeves having yet to prove himself.

As long as we get a speedy WR and an OL on the first day, I'll be happy. I think those are our biggest needs.

I hope rumors are true about locking up Fugita...no need to get 1st rd OLB with that IMO...

~ I think a first round LT is in order...we must secure oline and assure very strong swing OT. (It's possible Columbo may work out, but if not we have to draft a good OT)
~ FS...Gotta secure FS...Pile as back up will be a nice two deep position.
~ A young NT...if either Glover or Fergi went down...what do we have? Pepper??? More of a DE right?
~ OG...gotta get some promising guards to replace LA when he's done...

I don't think we can afford to land another oline FA...cost to much. We have to get a minimum of one potential starter on oline. FS or NT could be had via FA, but I think we look draft.

We do not get this choice until 2007. It would have been a fifth if Hunter stuck.

I think you would regreat taking Moore.

I would not be against a late second day RB, but at this point (first in many years)...I stay with the 3 we have....

Round 1 - Vince Young or Bradie Quinn (Need a young QB that can develop for a year or two that hasn't actually played baseball)

Round 2 - Jason Allen (Will drop due to injury, bu should be well by combine to show his skills)

Round 3 - Kai Parham (LB that can play inside or outside at UVA, BP will have inside knowledge of what he can do)

Off-season Pick ups - LeCharles Bentley -C
John Abraham

Dream draft -

Round 1 - Ahmad Brooks
Round 2 - Bradie Quinn
