If Dak Prescott falls again, can Joe Milton carry the Cowboys?

https://insidethestar.com/if-dak-prescott-falls-again-can-joe-milton-carry-the-cowboys

In three of the last five seasons, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has failed to play a full season due to injuries.
He has suffered three separate leg injuries alone over those five campaigns.
And despite this, Jerry gave him $60 million per year.

It's like Romo all over again. Romo got paid then started to get injured. It got to the point that every time he was tackled it seemed like he broke a bone somewhere.

But to answer the question, I am not sure Dak can carry the team if he is healthy. 2024 Dak was awful before he was injured. If that what we are getting in 2025? Or will be get a seemingly competent 2023 Dak who came in second in MVP voting? The answer is no. If Dak missed games again, Milton will not carry the team which is why they need to have a solid defense.

I have just a little more confidence in Milton than I had in Rush. I think Milton has a much higher ceiling and he hasn't reached it yet. Haven't seen enough of him to say he could "carry" the team though.

If Rush can do better than Dak then surely Milton can also.

I have no confidence in any QB on this roster to actually win anything that matters though.

We need to search for a real QB talent until we find it. We can worry about Guards and Centers after that.

"Carry" the team? No, I wouldn't say that. But Dak doesn't carry the team either, so not a big deal.

Would his mobility & arm strength be really interesting to watch? Yes

If the offense around him were playing well, Defenses would be scrambling to develop new game plans as they would be facing a 180 degree different QB. That "confusion" alone would favor us. Of course, he would still have to play at a level to keep defenses respecting both his legs & arm. But he wouldn't have to carry the team.

I want Milton to get as much practice as possible. I would love to see him in real game reps but hopefully on the back end of a blowout not trying to right the ship with Dak down for significant time

He may be like jameius Winston and have 4 tds and 4 picks every game… but he has more upside than winston

Wow

Probably just depends on the quality of defensive play. Honestly I think the the defense is going to have more of an outcome on the success of this team than either Dak or Milton would. Either QB thats in the game needs to be viewed as a bus driver that can take the occasional deep shop. Keep teams to under 20 points and this team is going to win a lot of games. Fall behind early and it'll be the same story that it has been the last few years.
