I don't know if anyone has noticed but 400 yard games passing seem to be the norm. Almost every team is passing the ball as much as us. I think the passing numbers are getting ridiculus, to the point of arena league stats. I would rather see passing but when your getting to 450 yards and 7 tds ( even though I had Manning in fantasy and will take that every week) and 480 and 4 tds as Aaron Rodgers put on this week its time for the NFL to start to think what they can do to bring the numbers back closer to at least 55-45. Heres some random numbers over the past 2 weeks and I didn't include runs from non mobile Qb's. They were all probably coverage runs. I did include like Russell Wilson etc.

week 1
Bal 62 pass 21 runs
Den 42 pass 17 runs
Cin 33 pass 25 runs
CHi 33 pass 19 runs
Atl 38 pass 13 runs
NO 35 pass 26 runs
NE 52 pass 30 runs
BUF 27 pass 31 runs
KC 34 pass 22 runs
Jags 35 pass 19 runs
GB 37 pass 17 runs
SF 39 pass 34 runs
NYG 42 pass 12 runs
Dallas 49 pass 21 runs
Min 28 pass 18 runs
Det 43 passes 27 runs

Week 2 Randoms

NE 39 pass 22 runs
NYJ 35 pass 32 runs
Dal 42 pass 13 runs
KC 36 pass 24 runs
SF 28 pass 20 runs
sea 19 pass 47 runs
Ari 39 pass 23 runs
Det 37 pass 18 runs
Min 30 pass 33 runs
CHI 39 pass 23 runs
STL 55 pass 18 runs
ATL 43 pass 15 runs
DEN 43 pass 26 runs
NYG 49 pass 19 runs

As you can see, its not just us the whole league is passing all the time. I have a theory on why no one runs the ball anymore and that is because everyone has gotten so fast theres just no room to go anywhere. The defense really has two extra players when you minus the QB and ball carrier, On top of that, we are at the point where even some defensive lineman can run with running backs for about 20-25 yards and most linebackers are just as fast as the rb's. Unless you bull doze your way up the middle it is hard to outrun the defense with all that speed and two extra players. I know theres other reasons like the college influence and you can't touch the recievers no more but if you were actually able to run teams would do it. They would do anything that works and seeing how almost 80 percent of the league is in the same boat really should tell you something about the success ratio of the run. Just an opinion.

The lack of creativity on offense is what kills the Cowboys IMO.

Negative plays don't help either.

High passing ratios may work for some teams but it doesn't seem to work for us. 0-18 since 2007 when we have less than 20 rushing attempts.

You seriously think that there's some actual, direct connection there? I'd say that stat is easily explained by the fact that teams tend to run the ball a lot more when they have the lead.

The connection is our QB isn't elite even though we put all our faith in him like he is. Romo and this team need a run game to get over the hump.

Yes, today's game has all but turned into a passing league. The Cowboys are bad at situational running, it seems they just run to say they have tried to run the ball.

The number of attempts are down across the league but it still doesn't excuse Dallas on why they can't run when need be. Chalk that up to an inadequate offensive scheme, poor run-blocking and coaching.

Word is out on how to stop the Cowboys running attack, just put 8 in the box and they will pass every time.

Teams are passing because all the rules favor the WR. The Czar got what he wanted.....a track meet on Sunday's.

The only teams that aren't having success with this new system of throwing are those who have crappy OLineman and a crappy QB.

Oh wait...................

the NFL is becoming just like the NBA. They changed rules until it was always run and gun and no D and so on. Made dunks more important than anything else. Frankly that is why I stopped watching. That and the incredibly massive ego's that are all over now.

I'm willing to wager that Dallas comes out as one of the most unbalanced teams in the NFL this year unless.

At least in week 2, of the games you mentioned, the team that ran the ball more won 5/7 games.

Also, Baltimore ran more than Cleveland in their win, Miami ran more than the Colts, Buffalo > Carolina, GB > WAS, CIN > PITT, OAK > JAX, and SD ran more than Philly.

This is just talking about attempts. I dont know how people can say that abandoning the run is a good idea with overwhelming stats like that. Unless I'm counting wrong, the team that ran more won 12/16 games. Minny lost in the last second, the Jets kept it close, and the Titans lost in OT.

Can't believe that took seven posts before this. We were talking about running the ball, right?

I agree you have to be balanced but the greatest keys to winning in the NFL is TO diff, field position, and pass defense > their pass defense. You need the threat of running and you must be able to run the ball effectively esp near the GL and short yardage. Playing with a significant lead should be mentioned but you get that with the above.

Causation vs. correlation. A winning team (regardless if they got ahead because of a superior passing game) will likely run more than the losing team because the winning team will try to run out the clock at the end of the game.

I really like what PHilly is doing.

Up tempo offense and a strong running game.

That is all New England and PHilly are doing and it works. I wish we could get it on that instead of trying to play like Denver when we don't have Peyton Manning.

So you think in these 20 games we have had a significant lead and been pounding the rock? I don't remember all these commanding leads you speak of.
