Darren Woodson was a linebacker in college and even played defensive end. He could have started his rookie year but they didn't give him the reps in training camp. This may be a good year for safeties. There are seven rookie safeties already starting not counting Wilcox.

Is consensus top safety Vacarro one of them? Somebody tell me

Yeah, but you have to consider that one of them is Rambo in Washington. He is only starting because they had absolutely nobody ahead of him who can play the position, and because the franchise is so desperate to make everyone think they had a good draft, that they actually put Rambo in the starting lineup.

It was pretty clear from preseason that Rambo takes angles like Helen Keller, tackles like Barry Manilow.

You have to remember Rambo was a sixth round pick and tackling can be taught.

I didn't know how Rambo was doing. Some people wanted us to draft him. They also drafted Phillip Thomas who might have started if he hadn't gotten hurt.

Yes, I watched his first game and the only time I noticed him was a personal foul on a late hit until the end of the game when he broke of a pass at the goal line to help preserve the lead.

Vacarro doesn't start, Roman Harper does. And in the play you mentioned he was in the SLOT guarding Gonzalez. He rarely lines up as the actual safety. Again, for a concensus best safety he would've been a FLOP for Dallas. How can't you flat beat out Roman Harper?

I agree he also didn't seem to be in on very many plays. I was so glad the Saints picked him before our pick. I just didn't see him making enough plays in College.

NFL.com lists him as a starter:

Also, in the Falcons game at the beginning the announcers listed him as the starter. He must have been demoted as the official Saints web page lists him as second string.

I hear ya, but skill and talent also play a big roll. I'm not saying Wilcox isn't skilled and talented, but he is about as an unknown commodity as there is in the NFL. Having him as a starter this early speaks volume about the complete lack of safety talent on the roster more than anything. Hopefully Wilcox plays great and its a non issue, but I just don't see how anyone can feel confident about him right now.

Do you feel more confident with Will Allen starting?

Congrats to JJ on a great start. A dominating performance by the defense, and not a single glaring error by Wilcox.

Vacarro, Reid, and Elam all seem to be playing pretty well. I would like to add Wilcox to that group hopefully. It would be nice if we scored a starter from the 3rd round at safety to go with our nice FA find in Church

She would light u up with those blind side hits.

She had a "sixth sense"for finding the ball carrier.
They tried her at running back but they said she "ran to darkness"
Lord please forgive me
