Matt Millen joins ESPN as football analyst

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP)—Matt Millen is a lot more popular as a broadcaster than he was as an NFL executive.

The architect of the league’s first 0-16 team is joining ESPN as a football analyst. He was a successful commentator at CBS and Fox before taking over the Detroit Lions in 2001—and leading them to one of the worst eight-year stretches in NFL history.

ESPN said Thursday that Millen will call college football games and appear on NFL studio shows. He served as a guest analyst with NBC during last season’s playoffs after the Lions fired him in September.

ESPN executive vice president Norby Williamson calls Millen “one of the absolute best analysts in the business.”

Millen was on four Super Bowl championship teams during his 12-year NFL career.

I'm glad he's back where he belongs, hope it works out for him, but he doesn't need to be in a front office ever again.

I only wish that he were back at Fox to team up with his former co-host Dick Stockton so that they could replace that obnoxious duo of Buck and Aikman as the number 1 analyst team.

I'm with you on Joe Buck but I have no problem with Aikman. Not just because of what he was to the Cowboys but I actually think he is a very good analyst. I like Moose better especially since they put him with Kenny Albert. Now if only they could ditch Goose, though he was getting less obnoxious this last season.

He should definitely be on draft coverage next year. Before each pick, they could have a "Who Would Millen Pick?" segment where he went up against a chimp. After a few years of embarrassing Millen at the draft, the chimp would get hired by Detroit to be their next GM.

I wonder if E!SPN will have Millen on draft day coverage to share his expertise.

Millen is a great commentator, but how are we supposed to listen to him after that disaster of football making decisions?
