Dallas last two HC were defensive coaches and they (Campo & Parcells) combined to go 7 years without a single playoff victory. I would say its time to try an offensive minded coach at the helm.

I can't see why that would matter, to win we need both offense and defense to produce.

it's also time to spend 1st round pick on offense...the defense has had more than a little attention....they need to grow up and play up to their draft status/pay checks. Their are high character guys on defense...Ware, Newman, Roy, James, Spears, Henry....you never hear anything about them and trouble. They seem dedicated to the game of football (althought Spears looks destined to be a DT because of his body structure)....let's give Romo the weapons he needs to keep this thing moving when TO and Glenn are gone

If you look around the NFL, teams have a tendency to be much better on the side of the ball that their head coach doesn't specialize in. Dungy's a defensive guy yet their offense is what carries them, Brian Billick is a self-professed soopergenius on the offensive side yet Baltimore's defense is their trademark.

I really believe that most head coaches meddle too much. They handle the overall team but can't keep their finger out of their side of the ball so the team doesn't move in one direction and they don't have enough time to devote 100% to that side so it's a mishmash.

I completely disagree. When Dungy came in the Colts had absolutely no defense, now on occasion they can be respectable. The Colts offense was already very high powered before he even dreamed of taking that job. In Billick's case, its nearly impossible to have an offense with the players they have had. Not to mention the year Billick finally had enough and took over play calling (this year) was one of their best in recent memory.

However, lets look at the Bears and Lovie Smith, its certainly not offense carrying them. Or perhaps the Patriots? Their defense has done them wonders in the post-season in recent years.

I guess the 5th ranked offense is not good enough for you?

Come on, get real we need defensive help, not offensive!

I dont get why people want an offensive minded coach when our offense was like easy top 10 last season. We just need someone who can call better plays at key times and oh yeah, we need a defense that can stop teams from marching down the field right after we take a lead. Our defense is what's broke, especially in December. The team just needs fire and commitment all through it. Not sure Norv is the type of guy that can instill this type of thing to be honest.....

our defense needs a better X and O's guy....Tony Romo is at a juncture where he needs to get a solid foundation...he has only played 11 games. The defense needs to earn their keep. Somone that will allow them to play agressive will make a difference. Someone that will put them in position to succeed will make a difference. Why would you use a top 5 pick on Newman...give Henry a double digit signing bonus...then play a Cover 2? Forcing your worse coverage guys into coverage. Idiotic. Passive. Chicken **** football.

I don't think it really matters. We had a defensive minded coach who had a top 5 offense in the NFL when he so happened to showcase it. But alot of that was pre Vandershank era.

Smith has turned the defense over to Rivera and seldom meddles. That's what makes him successful. The Patriots have won with offense despite what people think. They weren't throwing shutouts up in the Super Bowl they were outscoring everyone.

Billick hand selected Boller after that throwing from one knee display, he also ran Dilfer out of town in favor of Grbac.

I'll have to look up the numbers if you really want to argue but the Colts defense isn't statistically better than when Dungy arrived.

If you want more examples, Gruden never touched Tampa's D and that won him a ring, Cowher provided emotion but let his staff run both sides of the ball.

The Cowher approach is what wins over the long haul. Provide a philosophy, make sure the assistants understand that philosophy but let them implement it. Worked well for Jimmy Johnson also.

Well to my way of thinking you generally need a good DC even when you have a defensive minded HC (and of course you're gonna need a sharp OC too).

The same isnt always necessarily true about offense when you have an offensive minded HC because oftentimes that guy runs the show on offense anyway, including calling all the plays.

In other words I dont so much care which slant our HC is, we just need a good DC regardless.

And improve the Cowboys top 5 offense? Ok.

Its Lovie's defense and Lovie's philosophies.

Of course the Pats were outscoring everyone, thats what constitutes victory. :bang2::bang2: The defense has been a huge part of what they do, shutting down the Rams speaks for itself.
