I am pretty sure I've posted about this before, but I am sick of seeing "The Beautiful Harvey Martin" keep being dissed, and being excluded from the Cowboys Ring of Honor. I will keep re-posting on thisuntil it is done. One of the greatest defensive ends of all time, here are some of his accomplishments:

Career highlights and awards
How can the NFL Hall of Fame take him serious, when you don't Jerry? Harvey Martin is an all time great that is long over due his respect. It's time to put Martin up on that Ring and quit with whatever games are being played. You have Haley up there. I love and respect Haley, but Martin was every bit as good, and even better. The fact Martin's name never comes up pisses me and other fans off who remember the Landry days. Harvey was a beast. Give him his due.

It's mystifying why Martin isn't in the Hall of Fame, much less the Ring of Honor. Once Jerry put Haley in it pretty much established that he could put anybody he wants in, including Rowdy... so I have to assume that for whatever reason Jerry just can't be bothered to put him in.

Martin got overshadowed by Randy White who took some of his glory away especially when they shared the SB MVP award in 77. White becoming such a GREAT player took some of the spotlight off Martin who was a terrific player. He had a bunch of sacks including a team record 20 sacks but unfortunately the NFL didn't start counting sacks until Martin's last 2 seasons. The Cowboys losing 2 SB's to the Steelers didn't help Martin's cause any. Another SB win or two could have made the difference for him.

Actually it was 23 sacks unofficially... also the voters wanted to name the entire defense as co-mvp of the Super Bowl but the league said no...
Yes, I agree, Harvey Martin belongs in the ring... still holds the rookie team sack record with 9... led the team in 7 of 9 seasons in sacks... finished
with 114 in career, "unofficially".... if Dallas could've split SBs with the Steelers in the 70s, guys like Martin, Pearson and Cliff Harris would be in the HOF.

this is why a great play with lots of demons

I remember when he got busted for pot

With football gone, many inner demons came to light, including bankruptcies, domestic violence, and polysubstance abuse. Although coach Tom Landry sent him to rehab in 1983, Martin continued to abuse drugs and alcohol. He hit rock-bottom in 1996 when "Too Mean" was jailed on domestic violence and cocaine charges, receiving probation and spending eight months in a court-ordered rehabilitation program

Martin certainly is deserving of this but there are others from back in the day that that do also.

Charles Haley, Michael Irvin, and Bob Hayes also had their demons and are in. We all have our demons, and aren't perfect. Martin did nothing to bring shame to our team. His play while with the Cowboys should be enough.

Agreed Martin was one of the founding back bones to Landry's doomsday 4-3
and rightfully deserves not just the ring of honor, But to be enshrined along with
Two tall and Drew Pearson who have all been snubbed from their rightful place
in football history

These are the only eligible players who went to 4+ Pro Bowls and won a SBMVP, who are not in the Hall of Fame. In parentheses is the year the player entered the Ring of Honor or his team's equivalent.

Kurt Warner (2014)
Jake Scott (2010)
Chuck Howley (1977)
Harvey Martin

Thanks, Percy...as always.

You might not know, but that Lone Star Conference, also produced the likes of Eugene Upshaw, Darrel Green, and John Randle...those from my team, Texas A&I. All were Hall of Fame, lol.

Oh, the first draft choice for the AFL's Houston Oilers, was from A&I also, running back Sid Blanks...who led them to the first Championship.

Drew Pearson is in the ring. Who do you think from that era is more deserving than "The Beautiful" Harvey Martin in being on The Ring?

John Paul Jones is given National respects, even though a Buccaneer, (pirate).

The selection committee should go back to a High School Civics class, and learn what being an American is all about...

He would probably be my #1. But there are others for sure. Jerry is being straight up disrespectful of the Cowboys history for not doing the right thing. Something that has always stuck in my crawl about him.
