It's time for someone on the DL to step up

For someone on the defensive line to step it up a notch or two.

With the loss of Ellis, it is crucial that someone makes an impact on the D-line.

Who, if anyone, do you think it will be?

They've actually played quite well. In the 3-4, the two "ends" and the NT occupy blockers and it seems since we stop the run so well, that's just what they've been doing. I'm assuming you mean "step it up" in terms of sacks -- which really isn't their job.

I agree. As much as people like to see their guys get sacks and juice their stats it just isnt what this team is trying to do. You can tell by our vanilla defensive scheme. Our d-line isnt running stunts or twists. We are rushing straight ahead and staying in our rushing lanes. I believe we have been "pressuring" the QB enough and that sacks arent the only answer to great QBs. Our D-Line is awesome against the run while at the same time brings that pressure.

Of course, you will see Ware chasing Manning around but keep an eye on him dropping into coverage this week as well. As for someone stepping up... whoever will be backing up Ellis would be nice.

Canty and Spears need to do something, they've been invisible for most of the season.

Well we have the #3 run defense. I credit the entire line which includes then. They have hardly been invisible.

This is exactly what I meant when I said fans like to see sacks because it juices their stats.

If our secondary didnt give up the big plays we would be better than #9 pass defense. Its not our sack count hurting us.

Whose to say that the opposing defense did not read that match-up? Everybody is saying Roy is usually coming in to assist in a play he is not really suppose to be a part of. Maybe those teams got the exact coverage they wanted... Pat Watkins one on on against a Philly WR, with McNabb going against a blitz, which he sees coming from a mile away, with that blitz that has no chance of reaching the quarterback...

Maybe is our pass rush was better, the quarterbacks would never have been in a position to have all day to make those throws?

? that doesn't make sense. in a 3-4 the DL isn't going to get a lot of sacks. Its time for carpenter and Al to step it up a notch. I think carpenter is going to surprise a few. I expect to see Al in 1st and second downs and have carpenter in obvious passing situations. By season end, carpenter will be full time starter.

If you wanna talk about the Eagles big play watch it again... Ellis missed McNabb after going untouched. If he made the play Watkins wouldnt have taken any crap.

Against the Giants... Roy Williams gets taken out by a ref. Just some poor unfortunate luck for Watkins getting beat on 2 plays that could have easiy went our way.

What else is new, after a few years of this I am getting used to our bad luck.

It is their job to create pressure and collapse the pocket, and they haven't done that. There's not a rule that says a DLineman in a 3-4 can't get a sack.

There isn't a rule; however, you clearly do not understand the concept of the 3-4 completely. You go find a 3-4 where the DE's rack up sacks. Richard Seymour is thought to be the best 3-4 DE in the NFL, how many sacks does he get? WHile there is no rule, rushing the QB is not their job.
