Some of you may remember me, most probably not, but late in 2010 I pretty much took off from everyone and everything. October 26th my little brother died, I was in the middle of watching the newest episode of NCIS LA, I'll never forget, haven't watched an episode since. He was buried on Halloween in Pensacola Fl. Since then I've been battling the VA due to my service connected injuries, one being a sever ongoing bout with depression. I went 7 months without leaving my house.

It hasn't all been bad, in 2013 my daughter gave birth to my grandson, he's my best friend now. His name is Cameron Alexander Smith, he'll be 2 on July 26th. They live with us so I get to spend ton's of time with him, which has greatly helped with my depression, he's the main reason I haven't given up completely.

My son Brandon who's 20 is in the Navy, he's been in 14 months. The ship he's on the USS Benfold which is a Destroyer is being forward deployed to Japan next month. He's going to spend the next 3 years stationed there, most at sea probably lol. He made E-4 his first attempt and has received a NAM (Navy Achievement Medal) all within a year, can't explain how proud of him I am.

My other 20yo son is fighting MMA you can look him up his name's Austin Childers, He's fighting on August 8th in Atlanta at Center Stage for the Ga Amateur Belt in his weight class. He's 5-0 officially but had 2 unofficial bouts which makes him really 7-0 all won by choke outs. If he win's he plans to defend twice then go pro. Two weeks ago Dana White from the UFC came to watch his team practice. Austin has been talking with Cowboy Cerrone about training with him in New Mexico, that'd be great but it costs money, only 500 a month total that's training, room, board, everything but spending money.

My youngest son 18 is taking college classes then plans to join the Navy early next year.

As you can see it's not all bad, actually pretty good, but when you're in pain 24/7/365 life no longer is living it's just existing. I've had 3 surgeries, one I had a spinal simulator implanted which helps with nerve pain but does nada for the bone pain. My SI Joint is fubar, I need surgery but the VA won't do it, hell they won't even give me the % for the implant because they say they have no record of it lmao, they paid for it, it was them who had it done.

anyway, I'm trying to regain my life, and one thing I used to enjoy was coming here talking some football with a great group of men and women. So, that said, I'm back...

Sorry to hear about the loss of your little brother. It sounds like you had a lot of good things happen since...especially that beautiful grand baby (I'm assuming that's him in the picture) I also suffer with depression...I haven't suffered the loss of anyone close to me, but I understand how debilitating depression can be. I wish you the best of luck....it's good to see you back!

Welcome back. You may have known me by "nyc" back then. I don't recall when my username was changed to Sam.

Let the beatings begin again!

I don't venture into the Members Zone much and I just came across this post.

Bless you, sir, for you and your family.

As I sit and type this, I'm wishing I was asleep rather than kept awake by relentless lower back pain. I have 2 herniated discs and OA in my lower spine. Hell of a back for a 29 year old.

Anyways, I can completely understand where you're coming from regarding the pain. I've lived in pain for the past 3 years and 5 months of my life. One day, boom, my back started hurting and it's never been the same.

Hang in there man. I hope you're doing better now than you were.
