...a few times back when I was coaching. And it wasn't at a clinic. I was coaching at a HS and he used to visit at least once a year for "personal reasons" -- I guess that's the best way to describe it (he had a personal reason to drop by and hang out). I had the chance to listen to him talk football and there's no doubt in my mind the guy will do very well with the Cowboys. He's no "awe-shucks," super passive guy some of these writers would have you believe.

With that said, I wonder how many people here complaining about him base it on what they read or hear on TV? Probably every one of 'em. If anyone else has met him in a football scenario and thinks he will stink up the joint, I want to hear about it.

I think a lot of people base "their" opinions on what they read in the media. I follow closely on what is said in the media, but I agree to disagree with a lot of the things they write or talk about. Some people just like to go with the flow, watch what the media says, and then they just regurgitate everything right back up, disguising it as their own "unique" opinion.

That's cool how you've met Coach. I am very confident in him - I felt good things while watching his press conference.

I think Big Wade has upside, but I'm more worried about Jethro screwing it all up, like we're so used to.

People slam him for his time in Buffalo, but the Bills screwed the pooch on that one.

He may be 0-3 in the playoffs, but one of those losses was the Music City Miracle.

I'm not a WP fan and didn't want him to be Cowboys HC but he is here now so I hope he does a good job and make the Cowboys a better team. Past is past and we need to look to the future, I'll be pulling for him.

Well, I talk to people all around the NFL so perhaps you shouldn't be so cocky. I mean, you coached high school football and heard the guy speak. Big deal. It doesn't mean he's going to be a huge success because you heard him give a pep talk. From the people I spoke with outside the high school level, they all pretty much say the same thing. Great guy, will improve the defense right away, players will love him at first. However, the neagtive most people believe is his style is built for only a couple of seasons because players get tired of his "I'm your buddy" act in the long term and the team suffers on the field (See Herm Edwards, a coach a lot of people compared Phillips to). Of course, since Jerry Jones already has his next head coach picked out before he's ever called an offensive play, that shouldn't be a problem. I didn't get this info from TV, I got it from GM's, coaches and players. But make sure and let us know the next guest speaker you have at your high school. I'll be on the edge of my seat.

You forgot to mention that he benched his starting QB the week before the game for a stiff who led the Bills to 16 points. Funny how you forgot to mention that. I bet you would have dug that up if the Commanders hired him.

At 60 years old, Wade is definitely a short-termer. A lot could change in the next couple of years, but I believe you are right that the masterplan is to have Garrett takeover eventually.

I much rather hope Wade is just keeping the seat warm for someone more substantial.

Well, I'm a nice guy and maybe you shouldn't accuse someone of being cocky, then come back with a huge rant worthy of some of the world's biggest jerks. We all appreciate your info that is so superior to everyone else's, that they shouldn't even post it.

Who are you?

Aren't you the fellow who predicted a lot things that never materialized?

All this poster did is mention his personal experience.

I see you mentioned your "I got it from GMs" experience.

Tell us about your NFL GM symposium. Did they hand out balloons by any chance?

Even if true, it was indeed kinda arrogant. Hey maybe he's Mike Martz!

Is it just me, or did this guy pretending to know GMs just lose all his credibility?

I think Wade Phillips is the best hire Jerry could have made, bar none!!

I have heard from a reliable source that the plan is indeed to have Garrett be the next Cowboys HC. Phillips will be the face of the franchise, while Garrett plays understudy and learns the ropes. And that Phillips was only hired because BP insisted to Jerry that a 3-4 guy needed to be brought in. Take it for what its worth.
