Jaelan Phillips traded to Eagles

I live in the Baltimore Area and their sports talk people have nothing but bad things to say about him. It almost seems the guy has checked out of football and is looking for teams dumb enough to keep paying him.
Do people not appreciate that a trading team performs due diligence on a player?

Compared to the alternative of what we have? Yes. Phillips has proved he’s a solid DE in the NFL.
What’s ‘proven’ is that he’s injured a whole lot.

It’s also ‘proven’ that the team that drafted him doesn’t want to keep him.

I don’t value our draft picks as much as you do, I’m not ready to hang on to them and draft another one-legged defensive player
Apparently, you don’t value them at all.

I actually would take a look at him if I'm the Cowboys in the off-season. We will need to bring in at least 1 FA at Edge (I'm also assuming we look Edge early in the draft). I like his athleticism, his age and his talent. Injuries are a concern of course. Actually Fowler is playing pretty well for us too (had a slow start but has come on).
If you value Phillips, better to keep our pick and just sign him in the off season. We aren't going anywhere this year.

I think that a 3rd round pick is way too high for Dallas as their defense is no where close to competing but it makes a little more sense for Philly because they are all in right now. I lean toward the move not being worth it for them either but it’s not unreasonable to try for them.

Dallas didn't have a 3rd round pick to trade anyway (George Pickens trade).

Do you? Have you heard or read anything where he’s said he’s unhappy in Dallas?

“If Phillips gets 20 sacks?”

Seriously?
I said he is probably happy to be with a bad team in a contract year. He is. And he’ll be getting paid at least $28 million for next season. He might be the happiest player in the NFL.

Phillips, no matter what he manages to do, is not going to be paid Pickens money next season or any other.

This place would be burning down right now if we traded a 3rd for Phillips.

This would be the equivalent of plugging a 6 inch hole with a 2 inch piece of silver. Not gonna help much and losing value.

rahter telling that Baltimore trades a CB when their defense has had so many holes in it.
I believe he ran afoul of the coaching staff. He's kinda a head case. But so is Jalen Carter and he's working out fine in Philly. Maybe they are better at dealing with players who have mental issues. In any case, it cost them next to nothing to kick the tires on a 28 year old former all-pro CB.

You are really going to debate Howie's moves after all the success that team has had?

Are the Eagles picking up the remaining $6M of his contract for 2025?
The rumor is they leaned towards a 3rd and Miami picking up a lot of the remaining money vs doing a 4th and eating all of the remaining money.

Philly before the trade had 3x 3rds, 2x 4th, and 2x5th so to them they have plenty of picks would rather save some cap.

Overall decent trade. Miami got a 3rd for an injury prone guy they aren't keeping and Philly there's probably a 50/50 chance that they either resign him or he leaves and they get a 4th. Worst case scenario for them is he sucks but you didn't eat much cap and still have 2x 3rds.

You forgot to mention if Phillips walks in free agency and signs somewhere else, the Eagles will get draft compensation (same situation as Pickens here).
