Jags New WR Porter Out With Torn Hammy...

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Jerry Porter needed surgery on the hamstring he injured in May.

Schefter says Porter will miss the entire preseason. It's not exactly the way the Jags envisioned Porter starting off when they signed him for $30.4 million in March. Even if Porter is ready for Week 1, he will have had virtually no practice with David Garrard. Hamstring problems also tend to linger. Porter is no longer recommended as more than a WR4 pick in fantasy drafts.

Glad that Dallas passed on a guy like Porter and Javon Walker who is recovering from getting his butt kicked in LasVegas.

I wanted Walker but only for a one year, vet minium.

Porter had character issues in Oakland to begin with.

Jags will be OK though-they're a power running team anyways.

True but Reggie Williams is a streaky player. If they thought that Williams was all of that they probably not spend all that money on Porter.

Don't forget, not only is Porter out but Matt Jones could be in jail for the Coke he was caught with. They are now thin at WR.

The first of what will be a long list of problems for Porter in Jacksonville. They will quickly find that was 30.4 million dollars spent very, very badly.

I agree. Just looked at the Jags Depth chart and three players show up. They are Porter, who will be out, as we know, Reggie Williams and Dennis NorthCutt, with Mercedas Lewis as their TE.

I think the Jags will struggle on offense now, expect eight men in the box, to let Garrard and a depleted WR corp beat you.

For the most part-I'm pleased that 95% of the money we spent on FAs et al this offseason has been OUR OWN.

If anything-signing other teams' leftovers is a huge risk. It's obvious that no matter how much GMs study other teams' players, they still do NOT have complete knowledge about them.

Big Kudos to Jerry this offseason for making all the right moves.

I agree. I'm glad if we're going to spend large amounts of money it's to keep our talented guys rather than signing the Wilsons and Javon Walkers and Jerry Porter's of the world for large amounts of money that they simply are not worth.

This is another reason why I'm happy over what Bill P did here for 4 years. Sure-the game passed him by. Sure-he made a few terrible draft picks. And yeah-I got fed up with his "Retires me, retires me not" act toward the last stretch of each year.

But if anything, his philosophies over how a system SHOULD be runned really rubbed off on the Jones'. If anything-the Jones' have been able to put aside their stubborn ways and learn better ways on running the team. This I will give Bill P alot of credit for.

And throw in Asante Samuel to boot. If anything-I laugh at the Eagles and their fans...they go from being angry and outraged over the Pats cheating them out of that Super Bowl, to now saying..."They were stealing DEFENSIVE signals", "There were many reasons why we lost that game", blah, blah, blah.:laugh1:

This depends on what happen I tore my Hammy but did not tear a tendon or anything. I tore the muscle as bad as it could be torn I was purple all the way from my gluteus maximus to where it ends at the knee and of course the whole dam width was purple as well. How I did not teat a tendon who knows but it took a month for the twinges to go away.

If he rehabs hard he can get back quickly I started my marshal arts back up even with slight twinges after 3 and a half weeks. My biggest problem was a lack of time to rehab a lot so my leg got tired which took me about 6 months to correct with a better rehab he can have it sooner

No offense but these guys are top athlethes. Think of the Quadriceps(front of Leg) as the gas pedal, it accelerates and the Hamstring(back of leg) as the brake, helps you slow down or stop.

Now, if you are accelerating at top speed and you are trying to make a quick stop, you better have plenty of brake pads(Hammy strength) to slow down or stop. If not, in a human body, the hammy pops.

Agree, that rehabbing is important but remember that these athlethes put their bodies thru hell and for a WR it is very tough to recover from an injury like this, as I explained earlier.

Just ask T.O., Steve Smith how tough a pull hammy is to recover, let alone a major tear.

JFYI, there are three heads to the Hammy: 1) Biceps Femoris 2) Semi-Tendinous 3) Semi-Membranonous

Yep-while Chauncy Billips actually had over a good week's rest over a pulled hammy before the Eastern Conference Finals against the Celtics, you nonetheless saw how LIMITED he was in that series.

You have no clue! A pull and a tear are not even close.
