Jaguars GM: Justin Blackmon playing in '14 unlikely

At February's combine, Jaguars general manager David Caldwell called the potential return of wide receiver Justin Blackmon "a luxury" for Jacksonville if it happened.

The odds don't sound promising.

"It's not something we're counting on," Caldwell told reporters Friday, per Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union, adding that he'd be "relatively surprised" if Blackmon suited up in 2014 after being suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Caldwell said in February that the Jaguars haven't been in regular contact with Blackmon, the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, citing "certain rules that we have to abide by" from the NFL Players Association and the league office. The third-year wideout would need to be reinstated by the league first, something NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Friday called no guarantee, per sources informed of the situation.

Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon is a fan of Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon and had a unique comparison to explain his talent.

"He's a beast isn't he?" Moon told 710 AM's Kevin Calabro. "He's like Dez Bryant with all his brain cells....he has all the skills Dez Bryant has but he's not the knucklehead that Dez Bryant turned out to be with Dallas. He's a better route runner than Dez Bryant. A very tremendous talent."

Hey Warren still feel the same way? LOL

Has anyone ever put this back in Moon's face? I would love it because it was such a smug, disrespectful and ignorant thing to say about a young man trying to get his life together after a brutal upbringing.

I doubt it these guys get to say what they want and if wrong never have to admit it. Frankly the issues Dez has had pale in comparision to Blackmon.

Moon is well deserving of being in the HoF. His comments comparing Blackmon to Bryant were dumb, but that doesn't take away from his play as an NFL QB.

BS. The guy never really got it done when it mattered in the NFL. I could care less what he did in the CFL- that frankly is minor league.

I don't care about what he did in the CFL and I didn't mention it in this thread. That has never mattered to me. I watched his NFL career and the guy was great. He wasn't the problem with the Oilers. If he wasn't around those Houston teams wouldn't have even made the playoffs.

Not much of a Moon fan either and I do think playing in the run and shoot boosted his numbers quite a bit not to mention his 233 int was 13th most in NFL history.

Peyton Manning will probably end up with more interceptions in his career and is a deserving Hall of Famer. Brett Favre is 1st all-time in the number of interceptions thrown and is a deserving Hall of Famer. Moon ranks 5th all time in pass attempts, so it isn't surprising he would rank high in interceptions just due to the amount of times he threw the ball. If his interception ranking was closer to his attempts ranking perhaps I would think less of him. Take Vinny Testaverde for example. His 267 ints rank 5th all-time while he only ranks 8th in pass attempts. Of the 20 QBs with the most career interceptions 11 of them are in the Hall of Fame. That total will go up to 13 once Favre and Manning are selected.

True but what do Peyton and Brett have that Moon does not? I don't put that all on QB after all I think SB are a team accomplishment however those who vote on HOF seem to put more emphasis on that.

At OSU, it was well known that Blackmon had an alcohol problem., but was completely enabled by nearly every person associated with the program. I feel bad for him, he is a heck of a WR and one of the best YAC guys I've ever seen on any level. I imagine he'll be out of Jacksonville soon, and if he gets his act together I'd be all for bringing him in here.
