JACKSONVILLE, United States (AFP) - Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Reggie Hayward suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon in his team's season-opening victory and will miss the remainder of the season.
The National Football League club announced Monday that Hayward, hurt in the third quarter of Sunday's 24-17 triumph over Dallas, will not return this year and will undergo surgery to repair the injury in the near future.
Hayward, 27, led the Jaguars last season with 8 1/2 quarterback sacks and has 30 1/2 sacks in 63 career games. He signed a five-year contract with the club in March of 2005 after spending his first four NFL seasons with Denver.
The Jaguars have also lost starting running back Greg Jones for the season. He tore a knee ligament during pre-season training and is on injured reserve.
