JACKSONVILLE, United States (AFP) - Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Reggie Hayward suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon in his team's season-opening victory and will miss the remainder of the season.

The National Football League club announced Monday that Hayward, hurt in the third quarter of Sunday's 24-17 triumph over Dallas, will not return this year and will undergo surgery to repair the injury in the near future.

Hayward, 27, led the Jaguars last season with 8 1/2 quarterback sacks and has 30 1/2 sacks in 63 career games. He signed a five-year contract with the club in March of 2005 after spending his first four NFL seasons with Denver.

The Jaguars have also lost starting running back Greg Jones for the season. He tore a knee ligament during pre-season training and is on injured reserve.

That sucks. I cringed when they mentioned the Achilles during the game. Too bad it is a full blown rupture and not just a strain.

Wow, it looked more like bad sprain. He twisted that thing pretty bad. Hope he can recover fully.

That is pretty much what I thought the injury was when I saw it. He was engaged with the OLman on the play and just pulled up and went to the ground.
