Cromartie - 6'2" | 208 | 33 arms | 4.38 | 1.58 10 yrd | 38 vert | 7.02 3-cone
Ramsey_/- 6"1" | 209 | 33 3/8 | 4.37 | 1.51 10 yrd | 41.5 vert | 6.94 3-cone

Cromartie was the 19th pick. He was a 4x pro bowler and 1x All Pro. He had 5 int in 2 years at FSU.

Positives compare to Ramsey almost identically.

Negatives - Slow to see the play develop, but will close quickly once he does recognize it … Looks uncomfortable in zone coverage, as he does not handle the switch-off well due to a lack of feel for route progression and spends a lot of time peeking into the backfield … Relies more on his speed and loose hips to stay tight on the receiver coming out of his backpedal, but looks choppy in transition and does not stay in his pedal for long …

Only ONE game of starting experience at the collegiate level. He looks lost at times in zone coverage, as he is slow to look up receivers. His technique is as raw as sushi and there has to be a reason that such a talented athlete only started one game during his career -- a marginal feel for anticipating the play.

Cromartie had the looks of an elite CB early on. Still has put together an overall, very solid career. He has literally more off the field baggage than you can count. Not overly football intelligent nor intelligent in general. Never worked to refine his technique and continued to rely on his god given talents. Did not work on the nuances of the game, concepts and recognition.

Ramsey looks very, very similar to Cromartie the way I see it. But Ramsey has the football IQ and intelligence to reach a level that Cromartie should have gotten to or even beyond. Ramsey has no off the field issues and seems to be very passionate about playing the game and what it takes to improve.

Cromartie was the 19th pick with ONE game of starting experience. Ramsey was the first player since Deion to start at CB for FSU. Ramsey has more upside than Cromartie due to not only his measurables, but also his intangibles and understanding of the game.

Ramsey will need to refine his technique at CB, yes. But I think the guy will be special. By mid year he will be our slot corner at worst, making Claiborne all but ignored. At best, by mid year he slides in and takes Carr's spot. He will be a special teams ace and if used correctly, could be an outstanding blitzer and a force against the run. He easily becomes our most gifted CB and working against Dez everyday in practice will help him develop into a starter, sooner than later.

Yes, I wan't him at 4.

I don't know. There's a lot to like about Ramsey. But there was a lot to like about Byron Jones, too, and I didn't see it really come to fruitition on the field. Ramsey has range, but his hands appear to be garbage like so many DBs. A bit 'long-legged', as well, imo.

He's long legged because he's tall. lol Deion was all legs.

And how bout we give Jones maybe two years in the NFL before we write him off?

Where do you get that Ramsey's hands are garbage? Are there multiple you-tubes of him dropping balls right to him?
THIS IS A MYTH!
Just asking because in the drills I've seen, he looks to actually have good or even GREAT hands.

He actually WON THE WR GOOD HANDS COMPETION at the All-Star Challenge.
His hands are good enough that they let him compete against the WRs..guys like possible 1st round WR Corey Coleman and others----and he won.

Deion had hands. His long legs were more coordinated beneath him than Ramsey, in my observation.
Haven't written off Jones, just kinda feared he was a 'workout warrior' and, thus far, it appears he might just be.
B. Jones and Claiborne have made me completely cynical about this team drafting a DB in the first... and it's warranted.

Stop with he lies about Ramsey's hands.
His hands are plenty good for a DB.

Fair enough.

But I found this little nugget that I wasn't even aware had happened regarding Ramsey's hands.

The cornerback from Florida State prevailed in the hands competition. He beat Baylor receiver Corey Coleman and Notre Dame receiver Will Fuller. Coleman is the No. 2-rated receiver in NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks' draft prospect position rankings.

'Garbage' may be a bit of an exaggeration on my part. The footage I've watched, though, he seems to do an awful lot of batting-balls-down that he was intending to catch, instead of picking them off. Certainly, I could be wrong.

If we can start enough Ramsey threads before the draft we may yet get another stickied post.

I've really fallen behind on the Bosa threads, but thankfully, I've still got hours to get 20 or 30 in.

Not sure what you were watching, but Jones had a very solid rookie season.

Physically, they are very similar but are two very different players. You stated that Cromartie looks lost in zone and Ramsey excels in it. Cromartie lacked the instincts coming out and Ramsey is a very instinctive player. Cromartie did not display outstanding football intelligence but it doesn't take an expert to see that Ramsey is a very intelligent football player on the field. They are very different players on the football field.

Hope so. Cromartie wouldn't be someone I'd take with #4 overall.

They are different styles of player.

Cromartie is more like Claiborne. Primarily cover guys with nothing else to offer.

Ramsey is a extremely physical DB that can do it all.
