Never bothers me to give a man a chance.

Russell had his chance and the players the Cowboys give chances to end up distractions and back on the street.

Give him a shot! Why not?

It's already been posted why not. Review his career when he did play. Do you think him being away from the game for 6 years has made him a better QB?

No, I just don't see the downside. So he flakes out after two weeks of minicamp. Oh well

The downside is it makes the Cowboys look even more dysfunctional. They got bashed for bringing in Hardy last year and that didn't go well. This year they have a couple of young pass rushers suspended for testing positive for banned substances. Now you want them to bring in a QB who proved years ago they couldn't play and that no team will have anything to do with? Russell has the one quality that turns teams off more than anything, laziness.

We need to be giving QBs a chance at mini camp that have a legitimate shot at going to training camp with us and competing for the backup job. Can you or anyone else name one player at any position that's been away from football for 6 years that ended up making an NFL teams 53 man roster at age 30? There's no way a QB that flamed out in the NFL at age 24 is going to return at 30 magically transformed into a viable NFL QB.

Russell has no shot at beating out any young QB that's been dedicating themselves to playing the position while he's been sitting around on his fat ace since 09. It's hard enough for any positional player to come back to football after a several year layoff but it's virtually impossible for a QB to do it especially one who showed they weren't willing to put in the work to be a good QB.

Russell's not a criminal. He's lazy. All it looks like is we brought in a talented lazy guy to try and revitalize his career.

He's a lazy guy who didn't have the work ethic to last more than 3 seasons in the NFL which is why he's been out of football all these years. He's been away from the game too long to resurrect his career. We just wasted 2 years on a QB who wasn't very good. We don't need to be wasting our time on a QB who showed less potential than the backup we had and would have to re learn the QB position. It's critical we find a backup QB that can win games for us next season in the event we lose Romo again.

I believe it was 3 years ago Russell was working with Jeff Garcia attempting to make a comeback. At the time he reportedly lost around 60 pounds and from what I read not even one team gave him a sniff so with him turning 31 in Aug good luck getting any teams interested now. Golden opportunities usually only come around once for an NFL player who's window of opportunity isn't open that long. Russell was the #1 overall pick in 2007 and was handed a lot of money and lost all motivation once he got paid. The Raiders who desperately wanted him to succeed gave him every chance and he was simply too lazy to put in the kind of work it takes to be a solid NFL QB. With most players that have a weight problem they need to lose 15-20 pounds but with Russell it's 50-60 pounds and he's a QB! The ******* idiot showed up for a training camp once at around 300 pounds looking like a NT. :omg:Even bad character players who've had serious off the field issues get second chances if they're good players but NFL teams won't tolerate a lazy player especially a QB that sucked for 3 years. Jimmy Johnson said once he could tolerate just about anything with a player but laziness. In the 3 years Russell played he only completed 52% of his passes and his TD to turnover ratio was 18 to 23. In 31 games he was sacked 70 times. His career passer rating was 65.2. The amount of WORK he would have to put in an attempt to re-acclimate himself after 6 years away from the game just to make a 53 man roster would be too much for even a QB that was once a good NFL QB.

The letter Russell wrote if he even wrote it himself was a clear sign of desperation especially with him saying he would play for free. He was the biggest bust in NFL history and there isn't anything he can do about it to change it at almost 31 years old. He'll spend the rest of his life living in regret and will be a lesson to every high draft pick that's walking down the red carpet on draft day being treated like a rockstar that if you're not willing to work hard and can't handle adversity you'll be kicked to the curb in a few years and have no one to blame but yourself.

Jamarcus wants another shot...? Of what, tequila?

No to him on the team. If a guy loves and respects the game of football, he never does what Russell did in his first couple of seasons. It was clear that football wasn't important to him early on, and you can bet he didn't suddenly find a love for the sport since then. They never do.

No, this guy just wants to get back in the league so he can make some more cash.

Dallas doesn't want players who don't love and respect football... so they don't want him on their team.

Jerry won't be able to send the Lear - he'll need to send a transport plane.

If they could fit this guy in coach I'm sure they can find room for Russell. The guy sitting next to him is trying to figure out how he's going to get by him to go use the restroom.

The reason he lost all the weight is because he can't afford groceries. No thanks.

Talented? He is big and has a strong arm. Those are the only talents he has as an NFL QB. He lacked talent in every other facet required to play the position.

Give him a shot. He might be able to play other positions too. He's an athletic freak.

He isn't really an athletic freak. He is tall and big, but that is about it. He never really moved that well. In college he ran the ball 139 times for 79 yards. In the NFL he only had 40 rushing attempts in 31 games for 175 yards. He was mostly a statue.

Cause hes almost 31 and been out of the NFL for how many years? We don't need anymore 30 year old journeyman QBs e.g. Brandon Weeden.

Another former first rounder.... Nahhhhh
