James Hanna vs Gavin Escobar?

As nice as Escobars size will be come redzone, I really think Hanna will be a real threat this year. With an offseason in our training program Hanna (in ota observations 1 video) was looking very solid, I believe improved blocking coupled with speed will allow him to be in the game much more this year. Any thoughts/opinions on the two TEs?

Hanna has proven his athletic ability. Not much else. Still, with more reps he could become a real threat.

If Escobar is the better TE come TC, you play him.

I know Witten is still productive, but a 12 set with Hanna and Escobar would cause way more matchup problems for defenses.

I think Hanna will be a bigger factor this season. I think the Escobar selection was more about the future than the present. With Witten getting up in age the Cowboys I think solidified the TE position for now and the future.

Agreed, yr 2/3 Escobar could be the truth. Hands, height and the time to develop his blocking may make him the top TE of our future.

Nothing wrong with having lots of depth.

I rather have hanna and Esco in the game than (last year) vickers:D

there is no reason all three can't play many reps this year. it would probably be good for witten to get a few reps off and when you make the 12 that big of a part of your offense there is plenty of balls for all of them

Escobar can develop into Witten's replacement. Hanna will always be an H-back type of tight end.

My gut is there won't even be a fullback on the team this year.

Sadly.

I think that there will be a FB. Murray runs better with a lead block IMO and TEs do not block like FBs. JMO

Well, Vickers was gawd awful last year. It won't be him.

And they want to go two-tight end next year, so I think they'll pick up a blocking tight end that released from another team (there's alway decent ones), and go with four tight ends and no fullbacks.

I would bet my house that we don't carry 4 TE's this year, actually I'll bet my wife.

Early on, it sounds like they'll have a 12 set, where they have JW in the Y and Hanna in the H, and then a Big-12 set where, if Escobar can handle it, they get JW out into the secondary more. Should be fun to see what they do with the 13 sets, too.

I think we'll see reps for Hanna and Escobar vary significantly from week to week, depending on whom we're playing and how quickly Escobar adapts to the pro game. I really like the three guys we've got, though, and agree that Hanna could develop into a really nice weapon for us.

If we can just have some consistency on the OL (and that looks like a big if to me on the right side right now), I'm looking forward to watching this offensive personnel more than I have any group since 2007, honestly. I think they've got a shot at being a really fun squad.

shame we can't physically merge the two players best abilities into one superhuman TE...Hanna's speed plus Escobar's size and hands.... then throw in Witten's blocking and brain....

Two different types of receiving TEs. I know it is weird to compare them to WRs but I think of Escobar as a bigger Keyshawn Johnson and Hannah is like a bigger-er same size? David Boston(I know it is strange).

Not if those guys aren't ready for that role.
