Is it just me, or is he not making the impact that he was expected to when we signed him? He seems to get pushed off the line too much, and even when he doesnt he isnt forcing the center back and disrupting plays in the backfield. We need more out of our only proven NT

It hard to make an impact when you are being double teamed every play.

Exactly!!! Thats why you won't hear much from him if he's doing his job. NT clog running lanes and create piles.. I played it 4 years in college. Nothing glamorous about it all.

exactly, and if you remember when we signed Ferguson, that is what we all talked about is how he will be a guy who will sacrifice all those big stats and such just so he can take on two guys so that the tackles and LBs can make all the plays.

That being said, he played good last night. saw a lot of push.

What's it going to be then, eh?

A Nose Tackle is doing his job if he is drawing double teams. That is pretty much their reason for existence.

Anyone who expects big stats and big plays from the NT in a 3-4 has no clue how the defense works or what to expect from the player who plays the position.

Except that when being double teamed, the NT should not get pushed back

The point of a NT is to draw bodies and disrupt the interior line. Fergy only does the first part of that

huh? wouldn't the laws of physics suggest that if a 300lb player is being blocked by TWO 300lbs players that he is going to get pushed back most of the time?

You would think with the nosetackle supposedly getting pushed backwards so much Shaun Alexander (who ran for almost 1900 yards last year) would have done a little better than 13 yards on 6 carries. I didn't see Furgie getting pushed back. I did see Alexander trying to bump a couple of runs outside because the inside was too clogged up.

I think someone has already made up their mind that they don't like Jason Ferguson and saw what they wanted to see.

The laws of football suggest that if the only player in the interior line gets pushed back, running backs will have little trouble running through said interior line

As far as I know that would be making an impact. Freeing up the LB's to make plays. Thats what the Down Linemen are supposed to do in the 3-4, hold the point of attack and let the LB's flow to make tackles.

I think the best way to evaluate Fergy's performance is by how well the linebackers are playing. ;)

Average talent. We were wrong to sign him and release Glover.

Have you any idea how much your drivel like this makes your 'how can it be hard to like Romo' thread utterly hypocritical?

Every single run to the middle got stuffed when he was in there and last year Glover would consistently get blown off the ball.

Those late inside runs we had all too much last year were in large part to Glover. 285 pounds isnt going to get you far in run support.

they also suggest that if you need two guys to block one that an LB is going to be free to tackle the RB. Kinda just like the 3-4 is supposed to work
