Time for me to own up for being wrong. I dogged this guy all season long last year as being a Rivera-esque free agent bust. This year however, he has been nothing short of spectacular. I know 3-4 NT's don't usually go the Pro Bowl but I can't imagine a better DT than him right now. He completely owns the middle of the line and is making plays behind the line. No offense to Ware but IMO Fergi is MVP of the Defense.
Fergy has been stalwart to say the least. I watch him closely for signs of fatigue and have noticed that late game he's not visibly winded, regardless of how often he's been rotated.
It's a credit to his conditioning/weight control, which Bill has always been on him about, but which ultimately falls on Jason's own shoulders. It hasn't been easy for him - he's naturally a much bigger guy, but he's learned self-discipline since he was a young'un with Bill in NY.
I really enjoy watching him...sometimes replay an entire game just to check out his lateral flexibility, his two-gapping prowess, and his repertoire of tackles.
The fact that Fergy's one of the league's true 'good guys' is also a reason to be happy for him. I was thrilled to see on the Thanksgiving Day game that Ferg, his wife Gena, and their child were chosen to represent the Cowboys in the Turkey day commercial 'team blessings'.
Jason, with his solid and sometimes inspired play, locker room leadership, fun loving spirit, and common sense, does the Dallas Cowboys proud.
I do hope he is one of those select free agents who manage to capture the hearts of Dallas fans as a "true Cowboy" - certainly he consistently documents what it means to be a 'professional' football player.
Love ya, Fergy.
