I think BP is assisting with the rebuild of staff for next year. If you remember one of the first things that he did when he got here was to go out and get a young offensive guy that had a reputation in the league as an up and coming coach. That coach was Sean Peyton.

Now fast forward to the next staff and who are we talking to now? Jason Garrett who is a young up and coming offensive coach. This has the fingerprint of BP all over it.

Am I just reading something into this?

Just out of curiousity, and I really am not trying to be a smart ***, but exactly WHY is Garrett such a hot commmodity?

Yes, I know he's young, and I know at one point JJ wanted him to stay on and possibly get into coaching down the line.

But has he really improved Miami's QBs, for example? I'm not saying I know. Just curious.

And what experience does he have to actually call plays and schemes vs. opponents? Did he do any of this stuff at Miami?

I'd just like someone who is informed to fill me in.

Sorry,

Disregard this post. I see there is already another thread on this subject.

I think it is similar to Peyton, he had just been demoted when he came here. There is a back channel in the NFL where there is talk about who knows their stuff even if it isn't obvious to us fans.

He's a guy who played in the league and was a quality backup for years and known for his football smarts and has played under a guy like Aikman. He went to an Ivy League school so he's considered a bright, young guy.

I'm not saying that he'll be a good O-Coordinator or if he's truly a bright offensive mind, but that's probably the train of thought by people around the league.

Garrett did graduate from Princeton, he's pretty sharp.

Think about it, a smart man would patrol a sideline for three Super Bowls holding a clipboard for 500,000 a year. Much better pay than the private sector.

Smart i tell ya', plus his dad was a scout so Jones knows this man well.

Well, all signs are that JJ really wants Garrett back, which means Garrett will likely end up here.

I hope we can keep Sparano (sp?) to at least initially help Garrett. Maybe JJ makes Sparano an Asst. Head Coach or something.

If JJ hires Garrett and we keep Sparano, I'd guess we'd hire a defensive guy as HC. W Philipps would be my guess right now. And then perhaps Bowles is elevated to DC?

Sparano is already the AsstHC

Garrett is being brought in to work w/ Romo, and maybe serve as our HC someday

Ahhh. Thanks.

But IF Garrett is also going to be calling plays (according to speculation), wouldn't Sparano's authority be slightly undermined? I thought Sparano was heavily involved in play calling last season? I wonder even with the title would Sparano hang around?

I think Garrett is being brought in because Jerry wants an Offensive mind to work w/ Romo, and since Jerry has denied Cleveland the chance to speak w/ Sparano, I think Jerry wants him back in the role he had this year, calling a majority of the plays, Garrett in essence would be the defacto QB coach despite carrying the OC label IMO

That would be a good scenario for our offense, I think.

I was just a bit nervous that Garrett would immediately start calling plays. I think as long as Garrett isn't "thrown to the wolves" immediately, and works in conjunction with someone experienced, he'll really grow into the role over the course of the next 1-2 seasons.

I'm curious about what would happen to Chris Palmer if Garrett was brought in ? I mean the guy has a ton of coaching experience , and has played offensive line coach , wide receiver coach , quarterbacks coach , assistant head coach , and head coach . He's played , coached in the NCAA , coached in the Canadian league , and in the NFL . Does he just get swept under the rug ?

Palmer has been getting bounced further and further down the scale. He was disaster as the Cleveland Browns coach (though their management was bad as well), and he certainly didn't cut it as the Texans OC (though they had Casserly GMing). Palmer's career is in retrograde, and I suspect there may be a good reason.
