Just curious how many people view Jason Garrett as a HC compared to Sean Payton or previous OC ?

Sean Payton as HC - 0

You can't really compare Payton to Garrett because Payton had been in the NFL as a coach much longer that Garrett before he became our offensive coordiantor.

And the debate around Pyton's play-calling was whether it was Payton himself, or Parcells forcing him to be too conservative.

Runblings were that Parcells dictate alot of is game planning. When his offense started to take shape in NO it was quite clear it was more Parcells holding him back.

True but then Payton had the playcalling duties taken away from him when he was in NY.

Payton may have more hands on coaching experience, but Garrett has been around the pro game a lot longer.

As frustrating as his play calling may be at times, I think we're in good shape with Garrett as HC in the future.

Red Jesus also has 3 Super Bowl rings. He knows what it takes to get to, and win the Big Game.

When Payton came to Dallas, he had as many years of NFL coordinating experience as Garrett does now. Then, of course, he spent several years in Dallas as a coordinator/QB coach. So, even now Garrett is several years behind Payton in that regard.

And that doesn't even take into account that Payton had 10 years of coaching experience before he got his first NFL offensive coordinator job.

I do think maybe I hate on Garrett a little too much. I find some of his calls questionable at best and I don't think he can adjust in-game very well, but the offense does produce. But when I see Sean Payton taking the Saints to the Super Bowl and almost going undefeated, it makes me wonder. Especially considering the offense that outdid his team (and I know, our defense got the job done as well, unlike theirs) was ran by Jason Garrett. Now, obviously Sean Payton more experienced and that one game had a lot more going on than the head coach of the Saints versus the assistant/OC of the Cowboys and you can't judge the coaches by one game anyways, but I think it's a decent sign that in years to come once Garrett gets more experience under him, he might be HC material for us.

In the NFL? I'd be surprised if there is another assistant-head coach/offensive coordinator in the league with LESS experience coaching than Garrett.
