Something I just thought of, which has Parcells fingerprints all over it.

In Parcells first year, he had two guys running his offense. Mo Carthon was officially named the OC, but he was primarily responsible for the running backs and preparing game plans.

Sean Payton was the QB coach, but he was responsible for the passing game if I'm not mistaken.

So in this scenario, regardless of Norv or whoever is responsble, will Garrett's responsibilities include the traditional OC responsibilities or will they be divied up among multiple personnel. And MAYBE that's how they're pushing Garrett towards the candidates.

Kinda out there, but it just crossed my mind and I wanted to be like others and share.

It's not too far fetched. JG has no experience as a OC. Since he's here get him some help. Let him get his feet wet with out putting the pressure squarely on his shoulders right off the bat.

I think it's a good thought WG.

Well I think it just depends on whether you get an offensive minded HC like Norv or a defensive one like Wade or the others mentioned.

I would imagine if it's the latter he'd have to have a big role in the offense. If it's the former.. not so much. Because as we see with so many other offensive minded HC's they most often call the plays and we dont even usually know who their OC's are or what exactly they do anyway

It's possible. Maybe we name him OC to allow us to give him a title promotion, then he takes over primarily the passing game, like Haley did. That would allow Sparano to be the "O-line coach/running game coordinator" like he was before, and we could retain his talent while also adding a bright coach for the future.

Tony might need a big raise to get him to accept having a relative kid come in and jump ahead of him title-wise, but money talks. Sparano probably deserves it after the job he did last year, anyway.

This way Garrett would get his start here and Sparano would get more $$$ and could continue building his resume. Everyone wins.

I've already had that thought, and I would be surprised if Chocolate Lab is exactly right - that Sparano stays on as the running game coordinator/line coach, and Garrett becomes your passing game coordinator and QB coach.
