Jimmy Johnson won Coach of the Year in 1990 with a 7-9 record. Before this Season began, the majority felt this team would be 6-10. I don't see why he wouldn't be in the mix now at 9-4.

Given the fact this team was ranked darn near dead last and counted out by virtually ALL national, and even some local, media... does JG deserve to be in the conversation for Coach of the Year? Is he deserving of the award? If the team makes the playoffs? If they win a playoff game? Get to SB and/or win it?

I'm curious what y'all think?

Ranked dead last? We were 8-8. The offense was Top 10 or close to it last season.. We've been rebuilding and still aren't done..

Coach of the year? Weren't the Cardinals a bottom dweller last season? Huge turnaround there prior to their QB going down..

LOL at Super Bowl aspirations for this season...

Award based on off season media speculation as a result of a terrible D he put together? He is in the last year of his contract; no coach warrants a reward on getting it done their final year?

Cardinals were 10-6 last season.

I also remember a power ranking article on NFL.com in the preseason that listed the Cowboys and the Rams as the two teams with no chance of making the playoffs. The perception before the season was that the Cowboys were going to be terrible because the defense got "worse " and Tony wasn't going to finish the year.

I think a lot of you are forgetting that the award isn't a lifetime coaching award, it's for a single season. And while I don't think he is going to win, you guys are kidding yourselves if you think he isn't in the conversation. Besides, most of the media blame for the Cowboys lack of success has been on Jerry, not Garrett.

Convenient for him so far...

Also, Pettine's chances of winning this year are likely going to be heavily influenced by his handling of Hoyer and Manziel down the stretch.

God god man.

Dolphins coach, browns, Belicheck, cards, Seattle...all ahead of Garrett.

I take that back. They are on the list. He is not.

Cards, Seahawks, and Pats were all expected to do great this year... Cowboys were expected to be dead last. I can see the Phins and Browns ahead of Garrett, but coach of the year is generally about doing something with nothing, how can you even remotely say the Seahawks and Pats have done that (Cards realistically have only lost their QB and we will wait to see how much that ends up effecting them). Beyond that, how are the Seahawks better than the Cowboys this year when we beat them and we have the same record? Face it... Garrett has been just as good or better as Carroll so far this year. That must pain you to think of right?

"Expected" at beginning of year means nothing to me.

Look at my name REDVOLUTION....I was one of Garret's biggest fans.

I don't see it...what I hoped was... Would be..... It "pains" me.... But not for the reasons you are implying.

Then tell me, how has Jason Garrett done any worse this year than say Pete Carroll or for that matter Joe Philbin (since "expected at the beginning of year" means nothing to you)? It's rare for a team with absolutely no star power on defense (name me one player other than Carr... yea... who isn't either a castoff of another team or a late round pick on our defense) to do at all good. Garrett has such a team at 9-4, tied with the Seahawks (who he beat in Seattle) and head of the Phins, yet you say he is nowhere near said teams. Please explain.

Not into debating this smoke and mirrors with you.
Carroll is proven many times over. Not even debatable.

Win Super Bowl... I'll buy you a beer and we can talk about how great Garrett is.

Note I said "this year". And what about Philbin, What has Philbin ever won? Or Arians (as a head coach)? Or Pettine? Sorry, you basically said Garrett sucked THIS YEAR compared to 5 other coaches, historically you might have a case with 2 of them, but really 5 coaches, now I am just asking you to explain how those 5 coaches are better than Garrett. What is so hard about that? If they were giving away awards for best coaches over the past 10 years, of course Bellicheat would win. If they were giving away awards for best WR/OC coaches who are now head coaches Arians would be very high up there (though note not because of anything that their offense is doing), but they are giving away Coach of the Year awards, which generally means doing the most with the least. Right now I would say Pettine and Garrett are the two best there with Philbin being very close behind.

Why does Garrett get credit for patiently building the offensive talent he wanted but no one is allowed to blame him for ignoring the glaring weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball?

Does "the process" only involve offensive players? Maybe there's a sequel, The Process Part 2? Stacking good off-seasons on top of good off-seasons and in 10 or 12 years, ta-da!

Simple. Those coaches put a better overall product on the field.
We are a team of gaffs. Even during our 6 game win streak we did some of the stupidest, same ol, same ol things/mistakes. It's over 3 years - no excuse for that!

We have a better record than 2 of those teams, and as good of a record as another one. To quote a great coach... you are what your record says you are. Even if you don't buy the idea of doing a lot with a little, you have to buy that 9-4 is better than 7-5... right? Right...?

You are now asking a different question than the OP...
