Jason Garrett Gives His Thoughts On Three Cowboys Free Agency Signings

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2...s-thoughts-three-cowboys-free-agency-signings

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Cowboys’ free agency activity picked up this week with the additions of running back Alfred Morris and defensive end Benson Mayowa. They’ve now signed three agents from outside the organization: Morris, Mayowa and defensive tackle Cedric Thornton. Head coach Jason Garrett spoke about the team’s three new players Wednesday during the NFC Coaches Breakfast at the Annual NFL Meeting.

RB Alfred Morris

“We’ve had a chance to play against him a couple times a year throughout his career,” Garrett said. “He’s always been very productive in our games. He’s always been productive really with the opportunities he’s gotten throughout this career. He’s a very impressive back to us. He’s a natural runner. He’s just a good football player and anybody who’s had a chance to go against him as much as we have and seen him as much as we have, we just have a real healthy respect for him. Darren McFadden is a guy that we have on our roster that we think a lot of. Lance Dunbar is a guy who’s coming off of an injury – excited to get him back in the fold. And we just thought adding Alfred to the team would help our running game. He’s an accomplished player, productive player. We’re excited to have him.

“The best runners I’ve been around, they get hit at three yards and they make four and a half and five. They get hit at five and they make six or seven. And he’s done that throughout his career regardless of what the run style is.”

DE Benson Mayowa...

Its all coach speak. I dont have a problem with any of the signings, but you cant take what a coach says as anything but coach speak. Whats he supposed to say, well the owner signed him but I dont really like him? of course hes going to spin doctor it up and make it seem like this guy was what we wanted all along,. But again, I dont have an issue with the boys off season to date. Just scared there going to drop the ball in the draft. Time will tell. But in the long run, I still get up and go to work every day, regardless of what the boys do today or in the draft. Only changes how I feel on Sundays from sept to December or January.

Coach speak, I guess they are no steps above mumbling idiots? Kind of like the group of burn barrel citizens...with self-printed membership cards. That have a title stating: Doom and Gloom membership.

Or we can discuss what was presented in normal context, and expand applications realisticly.

Myself, I see an upgrade at defensive tackle...a stable picture at running back...and a rotational piece at defensive end. All, when mixed with Cowboys resigned, give a picture of a return to stability, at the least. Add in three to four pieces via the draft, and the final roster adjustments can be started.

IRVING, Texas -- Last week at the NFL owners meetings, owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked a simple question: Are the Dallas Cowboysbetter?

He answered quickly and with one word: yes.

The Cowboys have signed Cedric Thornton, Benson Mayowa and Alfred Morrisfrom outside the building. They have retained Rolando McClain, Morris Claiborne, James Hanna, Lance Dunbar, Kyle Wilber, Josh Thomas and Charles Brown...

Yea, I sure see your intended remarks...no, a parent should not tell his child that he currently is NOT going to heaven. But that doesn't belong, because the kid obviously was limited by his own view.

Now, following along with the non-crying contributions...would the resigning of Jack Crawford make a significant change to approach by the Cowboys, at the top of the upcoming draft?

I don't think so. Crawford was a nice, try-hard, effort player inside. I don't think he brings any solutions to the lack of outside pass rush. Now, if they bring back Greag Hardy? Yes, I feel that would make a huge difference and would allow them to draft best player available at #4.

But a Jack Crawford re-signing would have little, if any, impact on the draft in my opinion.

If we don't re-sign him, it's another hole in the DL rotation that would need to be filled.

I'd be disappointed with another unknown in that group, so I'd say it so of materially change our approach, yes.

Right same here. Does nothing for DE plans.
However signing Thornton changes plans for DT. Now hopefully Jack Crawford is signed for depth there, and can play DE too, because we do not want rumors of Hayden returning do we?

Stash, on conjecture...your opinion is as good as another's. You don't want to go half-way on a solution.

If it's a choice between Hayden and Jack Crawford at equal money? Give me Crawford all day, every day. But I'm not interested in paying a couple million for a journeyman like Jack Crawford.
