Lets look at the problems of being the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys. Number one problem is having Jerry Jones as your boss. This can be a problem but with the right head coach it can be an asset. Garrett seemingly has helped the drafting and player acquisition moves for the cowboys since he has been at the helm. Handling postgame analysis with the media JG is young enough and smart enough to be the good side of the face for the Boys, Jerry being the bad side. JG just needs to...hand off the specific game planning to capable individuals who have not being employed yet by the Dallas Cowboys except for Rod M who seems to be a fit somewhere on the defensive side of the ball. Garrett does a good job of being on top of things during practice and gets effort from the team. I like him here. But again he needs to let the game planning come from others and having brilliant coaches getting that birds eye view and assisting with in game changes and halftime adaptations is critical. I am looking for the Cowboys to bring in an OC that is bringing a scheme that will fit our personal. JG needs to decide if we are going ground and pound more or move to a spread type O.

So maybe he'll make a great GM after JJ (finally) moves aside and Stephen takes over. As for being a great coach, I would so love for this to be, but I'm losing faith.

Perfect coach? That is bold even for the biggest Garrett supporters.

This person you are describing.. he does not sound like the perfect coach.

Nothing wrong with changing OC's every few years but in Dallas it's a sign of a dark apocalyptic failure that must be tied to Jerry Jones and served up as proof of his and his coaches failure. When other teams do it they're just trying to find something that works. This philosophy is tied to everything Jerry does. The media sells it and frustrated fans gobble it up because who doesn't like to hate an outspoken billionaire? Donald Trump is my whippin boy.

Ah, more of the personnel moves have been so much better with Garrett mantra.

Have they really? Really?

We did spend 50 million for an irrelevant non-impact player like Brandon Carr while sifting thru the bargain bin for a couple of stiff starting G's under Garrett's watch, right? We basically flushed the entire 2012 draft class with Jason Garrett's shrewd personnel eye to Jerry's immediate right in our war room, correct?

Another wasted TE pick in the 2nd round this spring? When there was a ginormous upgrade for this team at one of the G spots sitting right there at that pick? What? He wasn't even on our board? With Jason Garrett in charge?

I think this angle to support Garrett has been exaggerated and way overblown. When I look at this roster I do not see an overly talented team. Or even a rapidly improving roster.

Not to mention if Jerry is that big of an issue and is at fault wouldn't that mean he is in charge and their beloved Garrett has had little to no say?

Don't get me wrong I think Jerry is a huge problem. But if that is your defense and then saying Garrett built the roster just doesnt work.

Well, Jerry "listens". That's what the fans say who look for reasons to support the status quo on this team. It's okay that he has no ability to evaluate talent and provide a plan with a vision for this team as any GM would need to do. He listens. He can be pointed in the right direction by his underlings. It just doesn't matter that the General Manager of football operations for the Dallas Cowboys is a giant void his staff needs to compensate for.

At least we've got a real Director of Personnel to help him out. Wait. Well, bleep.

Sure Garrett's got influence on the moves. He can't make one, he doesn't have that kind of power, but he certainly campaigns for it. I just don't see this rapid improvement in our personnel decisions the last three years.

Preaching to the choir with me. I don't think the team's issues are with the coaching staff at all. I'm not a huge fan of Callahan's as OC, but I don't think he's been the problem. I wasn't a big fan of the Monte Kiffen move that I thought was weird because I don't like the Tampa Two stuff, but we've done less of that then expected and I do like the takeaways.

Put me down as thinking the problem this year has been as simple as being upside down on key contracts and significant injuries on defense. I really don't think it's any more complicated than that.

And Risen, you're off base some more on your talent evaluations, cherry picking what looks like a very good draft last season, and inexplicably ignoring all the talent acquisition that came outside the seven draft day picks again for inexplicable reasons. I guess it *does* make it easier to use the word 'myth' when you do that, but I hesitate to use that as a reason for being wrong on purpose.

There is definitely some truth in this post.

The Cowboys Head Coach must be able to work-around Jerry. If the HC is too soft, then Jerry trades for Roy Williams or does something ridiculous. If the HC gets too much attention, then Jerry feels the need to make a splash like signing TO over the objections of Parcells.

I think Garrett is a decent balance between the 2 extremes. I've had bosses that had some of Jerry's tendencies. You have to be able to make your own decisions while making that type of Boss think it was his idea. The Jerry type of Boss must be given credit for anything good while you take the blame for anything bad.

I don't know that Garrett is the perfect coach, but, IMO, he is much much better than Wade or Campo.
