After much speculation that Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett would be a dead man walking if the team missed the playoffs, it looks like he'll survive, at least for now.
Owner Jerry Jones, who threw his support behind Garrett all season, reiterated that support after the team's season-ending loss Sunday, per Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com. Garrett added Monday that he's had "positive conversations" with Jones about his future in Dallas.
Not surviving, according to reports, is defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, not by firing, but retirement, according to the NFL Networks' Ian Rapoport.. The team is current mulling over a retirement package for the 73-year-old, whose defense finished last in the league in yards per game.
Per NFL.com: 'Asked to evaluate Kiffin's performance in 2013, Garrett protested that now is not the right time. Paired with Rapoport's report, Garrett's silence speaks volumes. The tea leaves suggest Garrett is staying and Kiffin is going.
