Honestly, he wouldn't make a bad GM. He was good at acquiring talent. He just didn't do a good job of coaching the talent.

He certainly does, and I think he's a good guy. He was very nice to me when I met him back in July. I actually wouldn't be annoyed if Jerry made him a GM. He knew talent. He just wasn't great at coaching the talent. So, I think him as a GM wouldn't be bad. Plus, he's very good as an analyst.

Everything I reported was factual data.

He became 2nd winningest all time Cowboys HC behind Landry. And won more playoff games that any other Cowboys HC since the 90’s.

I don’t have to make any attempt cause in this current turd Cowboys era he turned in one of the better tenures.

Anyone could have won two playoff games in ten years.

But only Garrett could have kept the job that long with such mediocre results, because only Garrett was a Jerry pet in the Jones family portrait.

I’m a fan cause he’s a former Cowboys player and coach. Player from our 90’s dynasty team.

I’d argue he represented the Star well . He’s very articulate of course being an Ivy Leaguer which is welcomed from a former jock.

Fans just got frustrated cause he had a longer tenure than the rest of our Puppets in last 30 years.

Anyone named Gailey, Campo, Parcells, Phillips, McCarthy and Shottenheimer cumulatively over 2 decades weren’t able to muster more playoff wins than Garrett.
 
Everything Garrett says comes across as disingenuous. Feels as if it’s all a rehearsed pile of crap. Players probably tuned him out some time around year four.

It’s a shame because they had some decent teams, but they were often sloppy and unprepared to play. Refusal to adapt to change, and only able to get loser HC failures as coordinators to work there.

There’s a doc out there on the 2017 team. Go to the first meeting after the Atlanta game and it tells you all you need to know about Garrett. No clue and not even a dream of being able to adjust in game.

With the players that have been through here over the last 20 years, the only reason they have had such little success is coaching…and that’s fully on Jerry and his ego….along with doing whatever it takes to appease Prescott with every hire.
 
Jason and Simms at nbc have so little talent or credibility as analysts. Both had mostly disappointing careers. Sims used his dad name all his life, his dad is also a lousy analyst. So boring .
Jason being passed by the nfl and college teams tells you everything. A nice guy with no mojo. Schotty is fixing to be Garrett 2.0.

Shoddy is going to get a very long rope. The only place for Jerry to go from here is the proven HC route, which means they are going to have to pay him along with giving up at least a portion of some control. He cannot hire another puppet if Shoddy has to go due to the need for a scapegoat.

Jerry will go into that kicking and screaming, so yes, I can very much see a Garrett 2.0 with Shoddy….from the point of view that he will be kept around long past his expiration date despite the results.

That's because he lasted 10 years. Give McCarthy a decade he would have more wins.

His hire undermined Phillips hire being made OC before Wade was HC as Jethro named him the future of the Cowboys.

Totally dysfunctional setting Wade up for failure from onset. But after begrudgingly allowing Bill more authority Jethro was anxious to reinsert himself .

To Jason’s credit he did provide some life to a 1-7 team as an interm HC. Which ultimately set the course for him to become HC.

And with a team needing a rebuild or certainly retooling after it had diminished following a better built team under Bill after poor drafting during Wades tenure .

Garrett helped bring in more involvement in draft from Will and developing OL and running game . Which culminated in what Id argue the best runs at finally reaching a championship game from 2014-2018 .

Heart breaking losses in two divisional playoff games against Packers with a catch that wasn’t and miraculous 3rd and 20 the Cowboys never recovered or rebounded from but it’s likely why Jethro allowed him more time than other HC’s had received.

It’s possible but mere speculation. All we know is much more qualified HC’s didn’t have anymore success cumulatively. Not one of them able to win more than 1 playoff game.
