Having watched the tape, Jason Garrett said he doesn't think the Cowboys needed to push the ball downfield, so much as outside the numbers.
Asked why they didn't look outside the numbers, JG indicated that had a lot to do with QB decision making. Argued that Weeden was effective.
JG, asked if he's got a competition at LG, says they'll eye that situation day-by-day. But adds "We feel really good about Ron Leary."

Garrett: Falcons defense didn't change in second half. There were opportunities to throw the ball to the outside, not necessarily downfield
Jason Garrett: Brandon Weeden did a good job. He only threw 4 incompletions
Jason Garrett, what did you think about your run defense against Atlanta? "It wasn't good enough."
Did Cowboys WRs win enough? Jason Garrett: Yeah, there were one-on-one situations out there. We weren't efficient enough in the passing game

Jason Garrett "We didn't play well enough on defense." Garrett said they were not as physical, relentless as we needed to be.

Garrett can't criticize Weeden at this point. He needs to try to give Wee-done some confidence.

You don't have to be a NFL coach to see that Atlanta adjusted. It was on the TV for all to see.

Exactly. I love when NFL coaches think fans are automatically too stupid to notice stuff and will believe anything they tell us.

i give him a pass on that. Defenders are in a no win situation with the QB running like that. If he commits to hitting him and he decides to slide, add another 15 yards.. if he try's to play within the rules of the game, the QB just goes around him.. any type of head fake and defenders pretty much have to give up the hit because if he does slide, that will throw that flag if he is touched.

What's it going to be then, eh?

He can't criticize WeDone because he did what he was told. The issue is what he was told by the coaching staff sucked in the second half.

Exactly, Brandon Weeden didn't do a good job. If you're not going to throw the ball down field, then at least be damned sure you're not going to throw an interception. I mean how hard is it not to do that when you're throwing 5 yard dump off passes all game, take away that interception within our 20 and that drive with 2 minutes left is to win the game (which we still probably don't do). This is what frustrated me yesterday.

Seems JG loves him some Weeden, doesnt he ?

Its rare that he criticises a player personally that way.
