Jason Garrett says Cowboys still in NFC East title mix

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- While Tony Romo is done for this season after breaking his collarbone for the second time this year, the struggling Dallas Cowboys somehow still have a chance to defend their NFC East title and get to the playoffs.

Coach Jason Garrett said Monday that Romo has a lot of football left to play in the future. But so do the Cowboys this season without the quarterback, and part of the message the coach has for his Cowboys (3-8) is that they still have a chance in the division race.

"It's part of our message to provide perspective," Garrett said. "Oftentimes you have to provide a perspective about where we are, where we are, where we want to go and how we want to do it. So that certainly will be part of the message when the players come back in."...

But the reality is, does anyone not employed by the Cowboys franchise directly, really believe in the company line by Jerry, Jason, or even Stephen on this issue?

Truth is, there is statistical potential to pull off a very late run...but looking at the running game going South for 2 of the last 3 weeks, and a stagnant window of opportunity in the passing game returnning with the proven immediate past for Cassell...who beyond Jason Witten and Sean Lee, is going out of their way to order extra helpings for a Christmas meal?

Depth of character and a win at all costs has not been a picture for this team over this past season...

lol they could win the lottery too ! better buy some tickets !

where we are.......on the bottom !.... I think they know where they are, and how bad the coaching is.
where we want to go .........win all the remaining games ! lol good luck getting them to believe that.
how we want to do it........ just like in the carolina and Tampa games ?? no problem jason.

I'm not a JG apologist by any stretch of the imagination, but what else is a coach supposed to say? "After reading the Cowboyszone message board, we have decided as an organization to tank the rest of the season and go for the draft pick"? Give me a break.

You guys are arguing against math here. There's not really a debate about this.

I think they are arguing math vs. reality. Yes, Dallas is still in the NFC title mix, but realistically a team that hasn't won a game without its starting QB is out of any race. It would be better IMO for Garrett not to even mention the race until we show we can actually win a game with Cassel. We beat the Commanders, then he can say we're still in the running.

losing 8 out of the last 9 games and not having your starting QB is all part of the master mind "process" of a playoff berth. So is excessive hand clapping at the worst possible moments.

I've never been a fan of people saying things that aren't true, whatever the reasons behind it.

I never thought I would say this...

I would rather Jerry stick to saying stupid things. It's his comedy show!

While I admire the quality I really don't get what your referring to. What did he say that isn't true?

That this Cowboys team - without Romo - has a chance of winning the NFC East.

If you would care to wager otherwise, just let me know. I've heard enough hollow talk this season to last a lifetime.

This guy is grade A stupid

Jason Garrett is many things but "grade A stupid" is not one of them. If you insist on tearing the man down, you can at least be honest about it. His mistakes as HC of Cowboys are too numerous to be ignored and just call him stupid. Perhaps your complaint would have merit if you focus on his true failures rather than making things up. Maybe you could talk about his poor ability to evaluate talent or his refusal to plan for the future... just a few suggestions to steer you in the right direction. As a well established academic scholar, one of the weakest arguments you can make about Jason Garrett is saying he is "class A stupid". Have a nice day. :)

What else is he really going to say? Most coaches would say the same thing.

But this team is dead. Anyone who is truly honest with themselves and have watched the games when Romo wasn't there knows this.
