I disagree.

I think Jason Garrett took the job because there are only 30 of them (less Detroit and Oakland) and this kind of exclutivity makes it very necessary to strike while the iron is hot.

I think it is extremely foolish to believe Jerry Jones didn't want Jason Garrett around. I believe alot of Jason Garrett's luster wore off but I think Jerry Jones still wanted Jason Garrett around out of loyalty and Jerry Jones wanting to be proven right. I also think Jerry Jones is extremely frightful that Jason Garrett will go on to have success much like Sean Peyton and Tony Sporano.

I hate to say it, but I bet the other part of it had to do with Terrell Owens.

What success has Payton had, other than one season where the NFL had him in the championship game because of a hurricane that destroyed half of New Orleans?

Jason Garrett left because this was the 3rd head coaching job he was offered in the past two years. His ultimate goal was always, of course, becoming a head coach. He already passed on two opportunities, there's no way that he could pass on a third chance at his dream job.

Regardless of what you think, making it to the NFCCG as a rookie Head Coach and doing it in New Orleans is having "some success". Furthermore, it's more than Wade Phillips has ever accomplished.

I believe Jerry Jones thinks that Jason Garrett has the ability to get teams to that level.

He's weak. Like I said, A real true HC embraces challenges. He doesn't run from them.

Unfortunately, Bill Parcells ran from one too.

There comes a point where you see Jerry Jones and how he operates and undermines what you're trying to accomplish as a coach, and if you're smart and not desperate for another coaching job, you get out and go somewhere where you can thrive.

It's no wonder we've got Wade, and the Oakland Raiders can't land a decent coach. Jerry's becoming like Al Davis, but with a better disposition.

Coaches worth their salt know that if they're going to cook the food, they have to buy the groceries and have control of the kitchen.

Jerry aint letting anyone control the kitchen at Valley Ranch. So you either let him burn the food while you try to put out fires or you go somewhere where you have total control over the kitchen.

Watch Garrett work magic with the Rams.

1) Because if you've never been a HC before, and your present employer isn't likely to promote you, then you don't turn down that opportunity.

I think there was likely a little "buyers remorse" on both his and Jerry's part. Jerry started having thoughts about Garrett as the head coach, and Garrett started having second thoughts about having Jerry's fist up in him making his mouth move when Jerry talked.

Stated like a man who has exquisitely experienced those mechanics on the receiving end.

I wouldn't leave my future in the hands of this combustible locker room. That's just me though.

And I don't know if Garrett is even going to be a good head coach. I still think he has a long way to go...But if he wants to be one, it's probably the right time to make this move.

BP ran away from every job he had, sans the Giants. He only left that one because of health reasons.

But, let me get this straight. JJ saw potential in this Garrett guy (who failed to work his magic here apparently), wanted to make him the head coach in waiting, but Garrett is choosing the Rams job over the Cowboys job because he can't work with Jerry? The reason JJ doesn't fire Wade is because he's trying not to do what he used to do in the past which everyone criticized him for as well.

I guess JJ can't win. I wonder if some people hope Garrett does well so they can rub it in, and show how JJ was wrong again.

Jason Garrett WILL do well. I don't question it. Sure he had some problems this year but the guy has only been a OC for two seasons. He's not stupid, he's young and has potential. I could care less though now about him. He's gone, it's over. The problem is, we still have Jerry and he still does everything wrong. Wade is a proven failure in 2-3 other stints as a head coach. He has a failure track record. He fired Chan Gailey after two seasons....Chan Gailey wasn't a COMPLETE failure as a head coach. Wade is already proven to be that in other jobs as well as here. Jerry is an epic failure as a GM. period. Name me one GM that would've kept the job Jerry has (from the 1998-present time-frame) if he wasn't the owner given his track record?...can't do it...Jerry remains a bafoon.

So Garrett gets the positive spin treatment for really proving nothing except being a grad from Princeton (based on the unquantifiable notion of "potential"), one JJ saw, by the way, before everyone apparently, and JJ, who has failed in the past, but has improved himself, gets the designation as a failure.

Gee. Could I be more right?

BTW, I want Garrett to stay.

Yeah he's horrible, second year as OC, team goes through tons of offensive injuries, finishes 9-7. Yeah he's a complete failure... come on. Give me a break.

We'll see who is MORE right I guess. I think Garrett will be fine. He has room to grow and learn. The guy is what 43?

How has Jerry improved himself? Oh wait, he's "having fun again!" ROTFL!!

Who would be the better OC? Peyton or Garrett.

I'd take Peyton right now but I'm not convinced of either.

LOL -- well yeah welcome to LOSERVILLE II sorta, but

"Cerrato was hired by the Commanders in 1999. During this time, he acquired older big name stars like Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders, Irving Fryar, and Mark Carrier. He was then fired by Marty Schottenheimer in 2001."

Oh good grief. We went 9-7 after going 13-3, and we have a good young QB and most of our team under contract.

Sure, we're just like the Raiders.

I never said Garrett was horrible, nor did I say he was a complete failure.

I merely pointed out your ridiculous bias. You're basing Garrett's greatness on "potential", not past history, and you're giving him the excuse of injuries.

Yet, you're denigrating Jones for being a total failure, while not giving him any credit for improving, which he has done.

If Garrett does great, JJ will be the target of criticism, even though it was him who saw the potential in him first before anyone else apparently.

If Garrett fails, none of JJ's critics will point out that he was great for letting him go, but they will point out how he thought Garrett had all of this "potential" and he was such an idiot for thinking that.

Sometimes, I think all of the people who incessantly criticize JJ are the same people with different aliases.
