We really do not need to even worry about them until the post season is over for us. As a general rule teams do not hire Assistants from teams still doing their jobs. The only teams we will need to worry about are the ones that still have vacancies when we are done.

I will tell you the one job I would fear. Indianapolis. Tony Dungy hinted at retirement after his son's death. That might be an offense that Jason would like to take a stab at. That said, I don't believe Dungy will retire right now.

I think Coughlin's job is safe with them making the playoffs yet again.

Teams will be in a rush. They always are. Last year I think we were the only team to wait until after the Super Bowl until San Diego pitched Marty. As long as we keep winning, I think Garrett is safe from the wolves.

Good point. But sometimes there are straggling teams... like us last year... or teams who are waiting for a specific assistant to become available before hiring someone.

But you're right, a lot of the vacancies will be filled in the next 2-3 weeks.

I thought it was against NFL policy to contact coaches while the team is still playing?

In other words, let's say that after Sunday a team is done, they cannot contact Garrett or any other coach whose team is still playing, right?

Man i would hate Jason to leave us really. the guy has done a great job for us..But i do agree though, there are alot of teams that are gonna be callin for the guy once the season ends. another thing IMO, if the giants lose in the first round, and they will, regardless if they got to the playoffs i think Coughlin is toast in NY. can u imagine garrett as the coach of the giants, or any other rival in the NFC east? WOW another job that's gona be open real soon is the Iggles job, Life with Loui Andy Reid is almost done..

As I understand it, in order to facilitate the hiring of coaches from winning teams, a team may interview a candidate once during a designated week, even if that candidate's team is still playing. So teams could interview Garrett even if the Cowboys haven't been eliminated yet.

Edit: I'm pretty sure this is a new rule adopted a couple of years ago.

Some of these teams have made lukewarm commitments to their coaches, but I would have to think the Vikings, 49ers, Ravens, Bengals, Lions, Chiefs, Giants and Rams would look seriously at replacing their current coach. I believe there will be at least five vacancies this year. Over the last few years, I believe the average is about eight.

I really don't care about which teams need a new coach this coming season, I'm just hoping and praying the The Midget signs Joe Gibbs to a 10 extension!!

Please, oh please!!

I think this will be a slow year for the coaching carousel. 4, maybe 5 openings.

I think Garrett's lack of experience may do him in for this year. Seriously, would you take him or perhaps New England's Josh McDaniels who has more experience and is running the type of offense they have in NE? For that matter, when you look at the improvement of Cleveland's offense, what's to say that Rob Chudzinski isn't logically a better candidate?

I think the lack of success of Crennel, Mangini, and Weis at ND may make people think twice about hiring another NE coordinator. That defense runs because of the players and the offense runs because of Brady, not anyone on the sideline.

That is a good question! Remember, Garrett has a damn good team with the talent to do what he asks for right now. Who is to say that HE can take a low level team and build it and have the same success that he is having now?

If Garrett would wait maybe 2 or 3 years more and have the same success with future potential player turnover that every team has over that span of years and STILL be succesful...the sky is the limit for him!

Although he is doing a great job now, he did not actually build it, if you know what I mean. It would be in his best interest if he stuck around for a few more years and learned a little more, or won a SuperBowl, or two. He is still very young...

Look at Sean Payton. He had a good year the year before he was hired, right? He took a coaching job and did alright (emotional Katrina team), but now look at him! Begging Romo to bail his butt out!
