Jason Hatcher attributes unfair treatment to 'Commanders' nickname

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Washington Commanders searched for reasons why certain calls went against them Sunday. Defensive end Jason Hatcher has one theory: the team's nickname.

The Commanders were upset with several calls in Sunday's 44-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers, most notably an unnecessary roughness penalty on cornerback Chris Culliver. On the play, Culliver hit tight end Greg Olsen, who was attempting to catch a pass. The ball popped into the air, Culliver grabbed it at the Carolina 25-yard line and headed for the end zone for what would have been a 21-14 lead. Five plays after the penalty, Carolina scored a touchdown.

The Commanders took some tough penalties in their loss in Charlotte on Sunday, but what really cost them is their inconsistent play on the road.

"I'm not saying this out of character to get fined, but it is what it is," Hatcher said. "I don't know if it's about the name or what, but at the same time, we play football, too. We work our butt off, too. Don't single us out. At the end of the day, it's the name. Don't worry about the name -- we're players and we work our butts off, too. I'm just frustrated with it.

"We shouldn't have to be punished for that. It's been every game, calls after calls that should've been made in our favor, but it goes to them. It's just not right. We're in the league, too. We're [NFL] players. We got a team, too. We go out there, and we sweat and work hard, too. I don't give a crap about the name. We are players. We've got feelings, too, and we want to win, too." ....Link

The terribleness of the Culliver call was something usually reserved for a close Cowboys game.

Happy about it, nonetheless.

Looking back at that game, it was more of a giant gift fest on behalf of the Skins than the dominant drubbing suggested by the score.

The call on Culliver was atrocious. But this is a stretch of "Armstrong" proportions.

See officiating is bad all over. It's not personal, it's just bad.

But is it intentionally bad? That's the question.

I'm most bothered that NEW YORK now has control of replay, meaning the league can now impact games from afar much more directly than before.

When you have a rule book this ambiguous, it allows for intentional interpretation.

True or not, it's a legitimate suspicion.

What a whine that was.

Agreed. That type of behavior is expected of fans, however, players and coaches need to be more professional. It is very unbecoming of a player to whine about the refs....makes him look like a crybaby.

Sorry...you seriously believe we're not getting more calls our way as payback from the league for signing Greg Hardy?!?

LOL. The officiating for us this year has been down right awful. The bogus PI penalty's on Mo, the giants game was a complete joke. They hold our defense lineman all the freaking time. I mean just yesterday Mincey was literally getting tackled when trying to get by his defender, the official was right there. Hey I'm probably wrong. But its been really bad for us this year.

Yeah, thanks for allowing the Panthers to pull their starters and rest them for the Dallas game. My GIF says it all, losers.

It isnt about hardy or Commander name, it is just bad rules to start with, and then bad calls and sometimes bad reviews.
It happens to all teams.
then people try to figure out why especially on really bad calls.
