New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul underwent surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles to repair a herniated disk in his lower back, the team announced.

The team estimated Pierre-Paul would be recovered from the surgery in 12 weeks.

The article says he should be ready for the season opener, but on just now on NFL Live they said he's likely to miss opening game because they don't want to rush him back into game action. Don't wish injury upon anyone but he's their best defensive player so that's good news for us I suppose. Wonder if it will effect him all season.

JPP will never be the same again. There aren't any surgeries that can actually repair a herniated disk. The current available procedures only relieve pressure off the nerves and try to promote bone regrowth of the spinal areas. I know because I have a herniated disk as well.

Most athletes who are unfortunate enough to deal with this never reach their prior level of production, and endure a slow decline going forward.
