Doesn't sound like a 5th rounder to me.

People get enamored with certain players and the myth gets perpetuated. And since you don't hear from the NFL scouts and coaches predraft you don't get the real scoop. Only the talking heads stuff. Johnson out of Tech jumps out to me. 1-2 rounder. Yet look at film yourself and if the OT gets their hands on him it's all over for the guy. Then you get a kid like Williams.

Agreed.

I don't think many understand that there are a lot of guys who can play football. All they need is opportunity and coaching. They don't always go to the big schools for whatever reason. If given the chance, they'll excel. That's why you can find a Jeremiah Trotter or a London Fletcher or a Zach Thomas in the latter rounds and find an Aundry Bruce or Keith McCant or a Ryan Leaf in the top rounds of the draft.

There are many guys just itching to play. A team just has to find them and coach them up. But you have to have the skill set. It seems the guys the Cowboys drafted have that, even if they don't have the name recognition - yet.

I liked this part:

Compares To: JAMES HARRISON, Pittsburgh -- This is high praise for an unknown player, but the more film scouts watch on Williams, the more they will notice he has the "it" factor. With patient coaching and in the right system, he could turn into one of the better finds in this draft. He plays with excellent field vision and awareness. Williams demonstrates the instincts to quickly track down the ball. He has the change-of-direction agility and lateral movement to string plays wide and hits ballcarriers with force, driving with his legs to push the opponent back through the rush lane.

Well, I hope he's nasty like Harrison. I know a lot of Cowboys fans hate Harrison and his "after the play" extras. But the Cowboys need a player like that (as long as he doesn't cost us a penalty). The Cowboys need a mean, aggressive player who won't take no stuff off the opponent.

I hope this batch fits that bill.

I thought I recognized that type of scouting report. The 'Madman from Brooklyn' usually is excellent at analyzing players. I miss listening to him.

Why is he going to be an inside backer? You would figure with his speed and quickness you would want him on the edge. Any ideas?

Too short in height and too rangy in coverage. Put him at ILB opposite of Bradie in a year or two and he can get the deep range coverage and blitz up the middle.

IF we have someone hitting late it will get called every single frigging time. Remember we don't seem to get the pat/steeler special calls. Committ a penalty, aw shucks we'll let this one slide.

Vince Wilfolk dives at QBs knees for 3 seasons, nothing done. Brady has his knee hurt, time to make it a major penalty.

I agree....Johnson is going to be a collosal failure unless he learns to play whistle to whistle....yet would think the Bengals got the steal of the draft by the way the analysts are gushing over the pick...we'll have to wait and see.

I like the idea of him blitzing from the inside.

Great assessment all the way around. I know there are several different scouting takes on all of the players, but this guy sounds like he can help us. He could be in the mix for playing time this season.

Unless something is wrong with his fundamentals I will pretty much bet hes taking Burnett's place in the nickle this year. Brooking isn't going to be out there on pass plays I bet.

Absolutely love this kid. He was one of my pet cats from the very beginning. Had him on every single one of my mocks (come to think of it, my mocks really did not change that much w/most of my players). :D

He is a playmaker. He is already as big as Bradie James, don't know why there are so many knocks on his size?
But in what round did your mock draft him?

I'm not knocking the choice; just curious.

No offense taken. I had him ranked as a 5th rounder in my first mock I believe. But by my 3rd or 4th mock, he was 3rd rounder. I was very tempted to take him with the 2nd, just b/c he was shooting up the boards so fast. My last mock had the Cowboys w/2 third rounders, I used the first of the thirds for Casey :)D) and the second for Williams.

You can verify the above by doing a search for BAT Mock in the draftzone.

No search necessary, I believe you. I was just curious of the round because I've seen varied mocks taking from anywhere in the 7th up to the 3rd. But from what I heard, had the Cowboys not taken him when they did, he wouldn't have made it through the round. And from the bio and highlights I've seen, I can certainly see why. Of course, I think it may take a couple of years for him to prove his worth. But here's hoping he does in 09.

I agree, I don't think he makes it to the middle of the 3rd, at the latest. And are hopes are the same, the sooner he can contribute the better. He is a playmaker w/a knack for forcing fumbles and getting to ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage. He is also a very good pass rusher.

I am almost certain he will win a spot on the nickel and dime packages at the very least.

the only issue i see is, he will need a big dline to keep away from the ol.

with ratliff, he's going to have to fight through guys.

That is a great question, usually guys with his speed tend to run around blockers (even Carp does this), but Williams is very physical and will take on blocks aggressively, does not hesitate in the hole. Will take on the lead blocker with force as well. Due to his size, he can get washed out on occasion but he is tough.
