... to move into fifth-place ALL-TIME in career catches for a tight end.

I'd never realized how high he already is on the career catches list for tight ends until someone on another board posted the list. Witten is 13th all-time right now with 429 catches. He needs only 33 more to move into the top 10, 52 to move into eighth, 71 to move into sixth and 77 to move into fifth. That would leave him behind only Tony Gonzalez, Shannon Sharpe, Ozzie Newsome and Kellen Winslow Sr. Witten had 81 catches last season and 96 the year before, so it's quite possible that he'll get at least 77 this season and move into the top five of all-time.

And did I mention that Witten is only 26 years old? Simply amazing.

He's got the ability to play till he's like 35 also..His game doesn't revolve around his speed so it's not like he'll lose his "speed" due to age. He can't get any slower lol. He just knows the game of football.

he'll probably finish around 1st all-time when it's all said and done

That would be sweet! Lets hope he gets a ring or two!

And somebody in CZ says "any" CB in football can easily make Witten disappear.

Witten is a great player, who I hope plays every year for the Dallas Cowboys. He demonstrates a consistently high level of performance and determination.

Witten and Ware are the two best Cowboy players, and if the team could get all starters like these guys -- it would be Superbowl Champions every year. And it is no coincidence that both of these guys are very high character guys.

Time for Romo and Witten to draw up some sick plays, so he can get the record out of the way quickly.

That's awesome Adam! The one thing I'd like to see from Witten though is more TDs.

It would be hard for him to catch Gonzalez since TG is still playing at a very high level, posting 96 receptions, and 10 TDs last season for a lousy Chiefs team. TG has played twice as many seasons as Witten but has more than twice the numbers, and continues to add to them at a higher rate than Witten, so I don't see Anyone catching him. Gonzalez is the Jerry Rice of TEs.

Still, Witten is young and could still put up some amazing numbers over the next 10 years or so.

Fantastic. So just double that in 5 more years and he will be beating on the door as number 1.

Here's the complete list. Active players in bold. The list could include Pete Ratzliff who had 452 receptions, but he also played WR & HB. These guys were all primarly TEs though Frank Wycheck also played H-Back. It's amazing to think that in just a few years, maybe 3 he will trail only 2 guys and he's young enough to catch those two.

1. Tony Gonzalez, 916 (33 years old)
2. Shannon Sharpe, 815
3. Ozzie Newsome, 662
4. Kellen Winslow Sr., 541
5. Frank Wycheck, 505
6. Ben Coates, 499
7. Steve Jordan, 498
8. Jackie Smith, 480
9. Mickey Shuler, 462
10. Todd Chirstenson, 461
11. Wesley Walls, 450
12. Keith Jackson, 441
13. Jason Witten, 429 (will be 27 in just over 3 weeks)

By the way, here's where he ranks all time for the Cowboys. Safe to say he will be our all time leader barring something strange, and will be #2 with just 61 more receptions.

1. Michael Irvin, 750
2. Drew Pearson, 489
3. Emmitt Smith, 486 (career total 515)
4. Tony Hill, 479
5. Jason Witten, 429

I keep forgetting how much the Cowboys used Emmitt as a receiver when he was younger. Combined with all the carries he accumulated over that time span, his career longevity is simply incredible compared to his fellow RBs.

Witten is hardly slow, as TEs go. And it's extremely doubtful he'll be effective til he's 35 with the beating he takes.

Antonio Gates has a chance to over take Gonzales in TDs. That is if Gonzales ever stops producing. He has to retire first before anyone else can reach the bar he sets. Anyway Gates scores a lot of TDs. He has 51 over his 6 year career. He has scored 8 or more TDs over the last 5 seasons. Gonzales has four seasons over his 12 year career where he put up over 8 TDs.

Witten probably won't catch either guy in TD production, but I do think he has a very good chance at being number 1 all time in receptions before his career is over.

If you listen deion sanders talk about him, you would think he never caught a ball before owens got here and wont after he left. That jerk took another shot at him and romo last night, and of course he slayed roy williams.

I will put the video up sometime this morning.

Witten is fantastic. People forget how young he is also.
