He's got the ability to play till he's like 35 also..His game doesn't revolve around his speed so it's not like he'll lose his "speed" due to age. He can't get any slower lol. He just knows the game of football.

Witten has good speed for the position. He gets open deep more than any TE in football and has since he came in the league.

Antonio Gates has a chance to over take Gonzales in TDs. That is if Gonzales ever stops producing. He has to retire first before anyone else can reach the bar he sets. Anyway Gates scores a lot of TDs. He has 51 over his 6 year career. He has scored 8 or more TDs over the last 5 seasons. Gonzales has four seasons over his 12 year career where he put up over 8 TDs.

Witten probably won't catch either guy in TD production, but I do think he has a very good chance at being number 1 all time in receptions before his career is over.

Yeah, Gates has twice as many TDs as Witten in the same number of seasons, that's why I'd like to see Witten increase his TD production considerably, and I think he will with Owens gone, although Bennett will likely benefit the most from his departure with defense focusing on Witten in the red zone.

Frankly, I don't see any TE catching Gonzalez in receptions and I hope Witten doesn't, because that would mean that we didn't have any other good receivers on the team for however many years it took. TG is their primary receiver while Witten is just one of the main guys for us.

If you listen deion sanders talk about him, you would think he never caught a ball before owens got here and wont after he left. That jerk took another shot at him and romo last night, and of course he slayed roy williams.

I will put the video up sometime this morning.

Witten is fantastic. People forget how young he is also.

Fortunately for me, I don't listen to anything MeIon $ander$ has to say. His opinion means nothing to me and has no value whatsoever on any subject.

Witten made the ProBowl his second season. The season before TOol arrived at VR. It's shame soneone on NFLN doesn't call this DeIon out.

Side by side comparison of Witten and Gonzalez.

The number after the year is Witten in Comparison. Once it reaches Year 7 it is how many receptions Witten needs to equal Gonzalez's production, and then how many receptions Witten needs to average to stay on pace.

It does show you just how incredible Gonzalez has really been. By the way, the true measure of just how good Gonzalez has been is in TDs. Witten has 25 career TDs, at the same point in their careers Gonzalez had 37, 12 more, which is 2 more per year at this pace. Gonzalez has 76 career TDs, also most by a TE. Certainly that is catchable for Witten if he steps up that department over the next few years.

Year by year, reception totals in ( ) after year 2. Both entered the NFL at 21 years of age.

Year 1...+2
Witten, 35
Gonzalez, 33

Year 2...+30
Witten, 87 (122)
Gonzalez, 59 (92)

Year 3...+20
Witten, 66 (188)
Gonzalez, 76 (168)

Year 4...-9
Witten, 64 (252)
Gonzalez, 93 (261)

Year 5...+14
Witten, 96 (348)
Gonzalez, 73 (334)

Year 6...+32
Witten, 81 (429)
Gonzalez, 63 (397)

Year 7...-39
Gonzalez, 71 (468)

Year 8...-141, 70.5
Gonzalez, 102 (570)

Year 9...-219, 73
Gonzalez, 78 (648)

Year 10...-292, 73
Gonzalez, 73 (721)

Year 11...-391, 78.2
Gonzalez, 99 (820)

Year 12...-487, 81.2
Gonzalez, 96 (916)

Great post Hos! Barring injury, Witten will make it a close contest when it is all said and done.

He was banged up all last year. He's played with his jaw wired shut and even plays without a helmet. Not sure injury will slow him down either.

Shockey went in 2002, 2003, 2005, & 2006. They do take more than 1 TE.

Dang, missed one. I'm glad he benefited from having a ProBowl TE opening the field up for him. ;)

Excellent news! I'm a huge Witten fan, he's by far my favorite player currently and quickly moving up to be one of my top 2 or 3 favorite Cowboys ever.

I'm going to be rooting big time for him to move up into 5th all time for TE's this year! Before we know it he'll only have Irvin ahead of him in Cowboys history.

The more I look at this, the more convinced I become that he is a future Hall of Famer. I expect him to have a big year this year.

Witten has a way to go, Gonzo is likely going to end up the #2 receiver all time

It would be hard for him to catch Gonzalez since TG is still playing at a very high level, posting 96 receptions, and 10 TDs last season for a lousy Chiefs team. TG has played twice as many seasons as Witten but has more than twice the numbers, and continues to add to them at a higher rate than Witten, so I don't see Anyone catching him. Gonzalez is the Jerry Rice of TEs.

Witten is easily within the pace needed to catch Gonzalez, if he plays as long as Gonzalez does. Witten has 32 more catches now than Gonzalez did after the same number of seasons (and at the same age). Witten had 81 catches last season, which is what he'd need to average (81.2 to be precise) over the next six seasons to match Gonzalez. Witten had 96 catches two seasons ago, so he easily could average more than 81.2.

Witten might never catch Gonzalez, or he could fly right past him before he's done. It's too early to say for sure, but so far, Witten is ahead of where Gonzalez was at the same point in his career.

It depends on how much longer he plays. I think it's safe to say he will be regarded as the best TE of all time unless Witten catches him somehow.

I was alluding to leg injuries. The wheels can slow down even the best of them. I pray and hope for his health. If he keep up his current pace he can easily surpass TG. However, there are a lot of variables that can derail his output, ranging from QB play, coaching philosophy, health, and will to play.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that he will finish behind Gonzalez, but ahead of everyone else at the TE position. I hope he proves me wrong and finishes ahead of Gonzalez too.

I'll be thrilled with that. I already consider him in the top 5 TEs of all time behind Gonzalez, Ditka, Winslow Sr. and John Mackey. I already consider him to be better than Newsome and Sharpe. That is saying a lot because they were truly great.

For the record, Gonzalez has been a 10 time Pro Bowl TE. Witten is already at 5.
