He currently has 452 career receptions. Michael Irvin is #1 in Cowboys History with 750.

Drew Pearson is #2 with 489.

Emmitt Smith is #3 with 486.

That means Jason is 37 receptions from being #2 on the all time Cowboys list for receptions.

I am sorry that stuff like this is still important to me. I return you to your regularly scheduled freakout over the failing season.

He should be 36 receptions away and we should be celebrating too.:)

I never realized how many catches Emmitt had. The man did it all.
Hopefully Witten gets close to the top number.

more like 4/5 he needs to average 99 receptions a season to reach Irvin in 3 years

I am being dead serious when I say this, I could not stand Chris Warren because I felt Emmitt was a far better receiver out of the backfield and Warren took away opportunities. I think in addition to receiving Emmitt does not get near enough credit for blocking and especially blitz pickup.

When people compare him to Barry (and I know it is inevitable) I actually wonder how many "Barry was better" pimps realize how good Emmitt was at these other things. I really think they only see the impressive runs (and they are impressive) and think Barry was better.

I will never agree.

I was thinking about this the other day. If Jason Witten retires after this season, has he had a good enough career to get into the Ring of Honor?

IMO, yes.

Witten needs only nine more catches to move into the top 10 all-time for tight ends. He could be in the top five by the end of the season.

And he's only 27.

(By the way, he needs only 17 more catches to surpass the number of catches Tony Gonzalez had through age 27.)

I was just looking this up. Can you post the top 10 if you have it handy?

Yeah, I think his career has been good enough.

However, considering some of the guys who are not in, i'm just not sure.

But he is a Jerry Jones Cowboys, so that will defiantly help him.

That is pretty impressive. Do you happen to have the stats for where he ranks all time for Tight Ends?

Edit: Never mind, I see Adam has answered that already.

That is so true and it bothers me so bad I can't even begin to tell you.

Also, Barry Sanders lovers fail to realize how many yards Emmitt gained in the playoffs during all of those Superbowl runs. Emmitt was a machine. Didn't Barry finish a playoff game with negative rushing yards???

Not that I am arguing either side because I though both where phenomenal running backs with different styles, but Barry didn't benefit from the same O-line that Emmitt did and played his entire career with a crappy QB, so you can't just look at stats alone to determine whose better. I'm just glad I was able to experience two all time greats in my lifetime.
