Absolutely no doubt on that.

He does not have a couple more years. WHEN Father Time hits you it really hits you.........when you least expect it

In so many cases this is exactly how it goes with older players. They lose a step, heal from injuries slower and are more prone to things breaking.

What if the answer was a guy we already had the smarts to draft but failed to integrate into our team?

Did we learn something with Dak/Tony...that sometimes its best to turn the page....that Youth must be served?

I didn't start this thread thinking this way...but my mind is captivated with the need to at least consider bringing in Bennett and letting Witten go.
Bennett is a complete and utter buffoon that will never have the pleasure of suiting up in a Dallas uniform again. That reunion is not happening.

I hear that!

Let me ask, just hypothetically, if Gathers really looked like a beast, Swaim was back for sure...and they felt confident Hanna could return to his old form by October...

AND...AND you could take the 7.5 mil of Witten's money (and likely some spare change under the couch) and forge a way to bring in a veteran pass rusher to anchor the end opposite Lawrence....would you entertain the idea?
We could just cut or trade Romo and do that.

Witten is on pace for almost 70 catches and he does wonders in the blocking game.

Witten to me is an OL who can catch.

Since their are no good free agent DE, I'm guessing we trade for one. Draft BPA -hopefully a nice 340 DT, another steal at CB like Brown, a WR (Christian McCaffrey, yes McCaffrey #2 WR and spot duty at TB) and another TE (OJ Howard if possible)

Maybe not. I sure understand your feelings.

How about watching this highlight reel just for grins?

Witten can play for several years to come as long as he doesn't get hurt. He doesn't use athleticism to get open. He uses savy and great route running with his intelligence and his big body to block out defenders. He's not deserving of a 7+ million per year contract extension, but a 3 year 15-18 million extension this offseason works well. If that doesn't materialize, get OJ Howard on this team and watch him blossom into the next Jordan Reed.

I'm not familiar with him. Where in the draft is OJ Howard likely to get picked?

You'd give Witten a three year addition to the year remaining? So you'd sign him through age 38?

No thanks. The sooner I never have to hear his name or see his face again the better. He can watch Wittens HOF ceremony from his couch knowing he couldn't hold that mans jockstrap for the rest of his life. I hope any team he signs with the rest of his career trades him to the Browns the following day.

Alabama TE who's underutilized in the passing game. When it's all said and done he will probably go late 1st-mid 2nd.

I think he's going to see out his contract. He seems to be a man of his word who fulfills his commitments. He's contracted for next season so he'll play.

I don't think he'll sign an extension as at his age he's year to year and I don't think he'll sign up to a commitment he can't fulfil.

I think its likely 2017 will be his last year in the league.

Let me ask, your dislike of him stems from:
His seeming immaturity when he was w/the cowboys and things he said about how he hates Witten?

Are there other things?

3 YEARS IS MY BEST GUESS FOR WITTEN - to age 37.

Could be. But wouldn't surprise me if he played 5. He came into the league so young that I think the perception is he is 40. He looks at 34 about the same as he did at 29. Never had big time speed. Is probably a better blocker today.

My bet is that they'll extent him to lower the cap. IMO at this stage he wants to win more so than getting the top dollar, so I could see him taking a friendly extension to stick around.

We do need to redraft a TE soon though

Keep Witten, but now is the time to draft a second TE

No way we have money to do both. One or the other.

Only by releasing Witten and freeing that 7+ million is there money.
