Javon Walker To Be Traded Or Cut By End Of Month

According to the Denver Post, the Broncos plan to trade or cut WR Javon Walker by the end of February. Kenard McGuire, the agent for Walker, said he has not been in contact with the team.

His contract calls for a $5.4 million bonus this offseason, which is why the Broncos would like to get rid of him. Walker said he has no plans to restructure his deal.

Fantasy AnalysisLook for Walker to be playing elsewhere in 2008. Keep an eye on where he ends up, but remember the last time this happened to him in 2006 when he went from Green Bay to Denver, Walker had 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns with the Broncos. A new home could be just what he needs. When healthy, Walker is a No. 2 Fantasy option, but that could change depending on his team.

I say we go after him.

Sign him to an incentive-laden one year deal and take it from there.

Here is the thing that boggles my mind. Why would teams actually announce that they plan to trade or cut someone? If you're going to cut them then why in the world would a team trade with you for them? That's as stupid as it gets. You're cutting your own legs out from under yourself by saying "We want to trade him but if we can't wait 2 weeks, and we're going to cut him anyway."

Why would anyone give up a pick, or player, for a guy they can wait 2 weeks for and sign out right?

Boggles the mind.

He might not wanna sign with the team as a FA, that traded for him is my take.

He supposedly needs microfracture surgery.

He got clearance at the end of the year physical that players MUST pass to be allowed to go home for the offseason and he did!

I agree! Plus he passed the physical that every player MUST PASS!

Some teams also would rather burn a late round draft pick than get into a bidding war in open Unrestricted Free Agency.

I like Walker. When healthy, he is a very good reciever. But, that's the kicker, when healthy.

i'd offer a 5th for him. Nothing higher. If they take it, cool. If not, fine we can try to sign him later if we choose to.

I doubt he'd garner as much in free agency as his current contract.

I can understand that from the perspective of the other teams but if your the team trying to dump him just say you're looking to trade him. Nothing more. If nothing comes of it then you could cut him but don't tell people that you're going to cut him in a couple weeks if he can't be traded. You've taken an incentive away from some teams to even think about trading for him when they can simply wait and try to sign him instead.

I was for a move for him a few years back when Green Bay was screwing him over. Now, once removed, from that bogus situation, I'm even more for a move to get him. The pressure was more on him to perform for the Broncos, now it's just time for him to prove to the league he still has it. We could get him on the cheap, and if it works it works, if not, no big loss.

Three years ago, I would've said go for it, even tho he was coming off an ACL. He's only had one productive year in Denver since then and he's got more knee problems. Microfracture or not, we've already got one receiver with a questionable knee. I'd rather not take on another one who may face yet another knee issue next year.

Pass.

Agree totally and completely. I'm not high on Walker, at all.

Yep, with his issues I would rather have Berian than him.

He'll be 30 this year and he missed about half this past season with that balky knee. I hear his own coach that's trying to trade him mention microfracture surgery.
No thanks.

I think I read Ty Law will be cut pretty soon as well..... He's old but as a 3rd CB he would be gold. The Chiefs I think were very good against the pass last season. Plus, it would allow us to ease our 1st round pick at corner slowly into the mix.
