Javonte or Pickens?

Can't go wrong with either. Pickens can be replaced by Flo. And if you draft right. You can always get a good back in the 1st round. I want to keep them both around for a while. Too bad we can't have this type of defensive discussion. Minus Kenny I really could careless who we let go on defense.

Whatever. Care to take a stab at why Roseman’s SB winning Eagles can pay Brown & Smith, and still afford the stunning roster moves that they make?

WR2s command expensive but affordable contracts to the majority of top teams. We’re mostly run like a joke, hence why it looks difficult for us to do what other teams do all the time.
The Eagles have deferred about $400 million into void years, which most teams won't do. It will hurt when that comes due.

It only kinda makes sense if you're a true Super Bowl contender. This team is miles from that, so it would be stupid.

The Chiefs don't do it. Neither does Buffalo or anybody else.

Defense is the problem. Pair CD with Flourney, Turpin and Tolbert and a draft choice and spend your money elsewhere IMO. With our Oline giving good protection you don't need a 2nd #1 WR to have open guys. You have enough weapons on offense with these guys and spending the 20 mill that Pickens is going to ask on defense is the better team option!
You’re one injury away from a terrible offense. We need difference makers, not just dudes. I’ll take CD, Pickens and Flournoy

JW will cost half of what Pickens will. It’s a no brainer. Having an effective running game completely opens up the offense. I personally think Flournoy could be our #2 next season.
Wait until you lose Klayton Adams. JW is partially a beneficiary of his scheme

Javonte, and it’s not even close for me. A huge part of our success is coming off the play action. The play action is working because defenses have to respect the run.
X a million. We wouldn't have beaten the Gnats w/o Javonte, or tied the Packers.

If Flournoy can really be as great as we think then bye bye Pickens! Javonte is 25, which isn't exactly young for a RB anymore but he still has lots of tread left on the tires. Age 25 is about where Zeke started his decline but there's a big difference in their workload at the same stage of their careers:

Javonte Through 59 Regular Season Games:
Attempts: 685 (11.6 attempts per game)

Zeke Through 56 Regular Season Games (2016-2019 seasons):
Attempts: 1169 (20.87 attempts per game)

I think Javonte can still play at a high level for the next 4-5 years. Maybe 2 more years as a quality starter and then afterwards he can transition into filling the David Montgomery role if he can find our version of Gibbs

Pickens is definitely the answer if you can only have one. He's a must sign in my book

You can draft and acquire good RBs a lot easier than you can good receivers. Dak also has great chemistry with Pickens

Yes, but when the Eagles started differing cap they weren't nearly as strongly considered as contenders.

You might be able to argue its a massive part of what made them contenders.

The biggest issue i see when you push into void years, you need to be right on that player. If hes young enough you can do it again and keep the party going.

I don't think it helped much at all. They're contenders because of their offensive and defensive lines. They dominate the line is scrimmage.

It's the opposite. Good WRs are easy to find, super bowl quality RBs who can get the tough yards when you need them most are very difficult to find.

Your RB idea is an old one that has been disproven.

Take away Jalen Carter, and they don't win the super bowl last season.

RB’s don’t last long
Not directed at @32BellyOption, just a general observation. I think we sometimes get too caught up in timeframes. If you think the player can produce over the course of the proposed contract (OR the period the $'s matter), sign him. Don't worry about what MIGHT be the situation at the end of that period. Certainly not with the bulk of your roster that aren't getting top of market contracts. You'll have much better info as that contract comes to an end whether or not to pursue an extension. It's not the end of the world to move on from a player who has a short period of production left.

Honestly?

Javonte.

He will be less expensive. And Ryan Flournoy is a legit stud with all kinds of ability himself. He can be a #2. No question.

Ideally- I'd aim to keep both.
pickens likely nets you a solid comp pick as well.

because he manipulates the cap like no other, and has pushed an enormous amount of money into the future. coupled with having a plethora of day 1 and day 2 picks over the past couple of years to constantly bring in young blue chip talent. it's an outlier of a situation. conventional wisdom definitely frowns on two high end wr's except when one is on a rookie contract.

Yup. Smart, pay those salaries when you are going to suck anyway. Planning for the ups and downs is brilliant.
