Javonte or Pickens?

Pickens needs to be extended now or traded for draft capitol. I bet Buffalo would part with a second rounder to have Pickens the rest of the year.

Javonte easily. Way more impactful.

You can't pay two receivers top money.
Sure, we can without a superstar on defense or else you’re gonna put the money

Whatever. Care to take a stab at why Roseman’s SB winning Eagles can pay Brown & Smith, and still afford the stunning roster moves that they make?

WR2s command expensive but affordable contracts to the majority of top teams. We’re mostly run like a joke, hence why it looks difficult for us to do what other teams do all the time.
Answer to why the eagles can keep Brown and Smith and make other big roster moves? They have a great GM. We don’t.

The way I'd think of it is what is the replacement value of each player.
I'd consider Pickens a 1 at least a 1B Wideout (If CeeDee is 1A and assuming he stays on track)
I think you'd need to use a first rounder to replace him, like what was rumored for this past draft (rumors of Tet or Golden).
Also, I think Pickens will get offers similar to other 1Bs, like Jamo and Higgin (3/90, 4/120 type deals). Again, this assumes he stays on track.

Javonte no doubt will get a raise (well deserved), but I doubt he gets what other top RBs get (and top RBs make less than 1B WRs). Look at comparative players.
I also think you could replace that production with a 2nd or 3rd rounder, no disrespect to Javonte.

I actually think with the Micah freedom we could sign both. I don't think Javonte is breaking the bank, but I also think you could probably replace his production with an inexpensive draft pick, and preserve the 1st rounder to you'd to spend to replace Pickens (and use it on Defense).
On the other hand, if you let Pickens sign elsewhere, we likely get a 3rd round comp pick, so I could see us take that into account too.

He’s UFA soon.

No one will trade.
Teams that are a player away will trade. Buffalo with Pickens would be the Super Bowl favorite. Allen has no down field targets or anyone who can stretch the defense. Buffalo is a perfect partner.

I took a peek at the UFA RBs for '26 and it's a buyer's market for the Cowboys, they don't have to throw a lot of money at Javonte when they can replace him with a similar RB looking for payday after showing out in this run scheme of Klayton Adams.

WRs are available in the draft with one of two 1st rounders for Dallas, so they don't have to pay Pickens $30M. See what you have in Mingo n Flournoy the rest of the way. Cowboys may not be able to replace Pickens, but with a committee and a top WR in the draft they'll come out cheaper and should be ok talent wise.

Long story short, the Cowboys can keep whoever they want, and replace whoever they want this offseason because the talent will be out there.

If we can only bring one back next year?
Who would you pick?
Pickens. Williams is having a career year. I love what he’s doing but he’s not likely to have this kind of year again. Pickens is kinda doing what he’s been doing

It will come as a surprise to no one here that I would favor Williams by a country mile in this decision. We got lucky to find a horse at RB in free agency once. Counting on that kind of luck again is foolhardy. On the other hand 7 of the top 10 receivers in yards are 25 or younger. Reportedly I can get Williams for about 10 mil a year.. Pickens is going to command twice that. So I'm going to pay a guy who touches the ball 5 times a game double that which I would pay a guy who touches it 20? Somebody make it make sense?

no contest with me ..player vs player ... it's Pickens ..

Big Question is ,,. what kind of contract would it take to re-sign a Pickens after he has a great big productive 2025 ? ..and every indication, barring injury to himself or Dak, he is clearly on his way to playing himself into such a huge contract.. whether it be Dalllas ... or elswhere on another NFL team ...

And yet, we're winning because of Williams. Ain't that strange how it works?

Javonte is balling without having the starting 5 Olmen together all season long. Beebe, Guyton and Booker are ascending OLmen with very solid to All-Pro potential.

Pre-Draft Analysis for Javonte Williams (2021 NFL Draft)

Player Profile:
  • Name: Javonte Williams
  • College: North Carolina
  • Position: Running Back
  • Height: 5'10"
  • Weight: 212 lbs
Strengths:
  • Balance and Power: Williams is known for his exceptional balance and ability to break tackles. He runs with a low center of gravity, making it difficult for defenders to bring him down.
  • Vision: He displays excellent vision, allowing him to find holes in the defense and make quick decisions while navigating through traffic.
  • Agility: His agility and quick footwork enable him to change direction swiftly, making him a threat in both inside and outside runs.
  • Pass Protection: Williams shows a willingness to block and has the skills to pick up blitzes, which is a valuable asset for an NFL running back.
  • Receiving Ability: He has solid hands and can contribute in the passing game, making him a dual-threat option for offenses.
Weaknesses:
  • Workload: Williams shared carries in college, which raises questions about how he will handle a larger workload in the NFL.
  • Speed: While he has good speed, he may not have the elite breakaway speed that some teams covet in a lead back.
Overall Assessment:
Javonte Williams is a well-rounded running back who brings a unique blend of power, agility, and versatility to the table. His ability to break tackles and perform in both rushing and passing situations makes him an appealing prospect for teams looking to bolster their backfield. While some concerns about his workload and top-end speed exist, his skill set suggests he can be a productive starter in the NFL.

Projected Draft Position:
Williams was expected to be one of the top running backs selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, with projections ranging from late first round to early second round.

Analysis: Williams is a bruising ball carrier who doles out a lot of punishment, running with an aggressive style and consistently finding ways to pick up yardage. He’s best running downhill.

Positives: Large, explosive downhill ball carrier whose game is on the upswing. Possesses a smooth, fluid style and runs with power. Displays good vision as well as instincts, finds the running lanes, and will pick and choose his spots. Displays a burst of speed and gets through the hole with authority. Strong and picks up a lot of yardage off initial contact.

Drags defenders for yards at a clip and falls forward when tackled. Works runs and drives his shoulders through defenders, barreling over opponents for extra yardage. Consistently runs north and south. Terrific pass catcher out of the backfield, adjusting to the errant throw and making the reception away from his frame.

Williams is an incredibly dense, compact runner, standing at around 5-foot-10, 212 pounds. His size likens him to a bowling ball in the open field, and he’s difficult to bring down on first contact. Williams broke tackles at an extraordinary rate in 2020, and he primarily accomplished this with his elite contact balance and tenacious energy as a runner. Williams has the sheer mass to absorb direct contact, and he has the balance to stay on his feet and extend plays.

Definitely resign this guy.

Now, we need to develop the lightning speed of Jaydon Blue to complement Williams' bruising style. Blue has more speed and acceleration than Tony Pollard, while having a shorter height, i.e. mor difficult to spot.

Pickens, Williams seems to be a well below average receiving back.
