I will admit, I've watched more of Smith than I have of Jack. I'll have to go watch some more of him.

i read an interesting breakdown on jack on National football post and it he said that he moves more like a defensive back then a linebacker with how he eludes blocks instead of shedding them and some teams may see Jack as more a Strong Safety then linebacker with his cover skills. Anyways i like smith better because he can be a 3 down player at WILL, MIKE, and SAM while Jack is soley a WILL or possibly a SS. Smith cant cover like Jack but hes no bum at coverage either.
I don't know who will be better. But Jacks was 240+ lbs this year without losing speed. He also played all three LB spot for 2 years. He can light people up.
He looks bigger than Smith this year. Smith looks more finesse player than Jacks.
Jacks is also already the most talented RB we would have on the roster if he get drafted.
How many LB's are ever worth a top 5 pick? Especially a 4-3 LB.
Wow i didn't know he was playing at that size. I always thought he was closer to 230 lbs. Everyone keeps saying he will only play be able to play WILL in a 4-3 in the NFL though. I guess im a little skeptical of using such a high pick on a player with a torn ACL. I think both Jack and Smith will be pro bowlers in this league but i do like Smith size and length though. In the end they are both elite in pass coverage for linebackers(Jack still the better of the 2), they are extremely athletic with the power, speed, and instincts to make plays in the backfield, and both would be perfect playing next to Sean Lee.
Torn meniscus not ACL.
I do kinda agree hard to spend high pick on 4-3 LB.
Unless the Cowboys would make either Jack or Smith a MLB or WLB, they wouldn't be worth the selection. In the Kiffin-Marinelli 4-3, the SLB is a complete non-factor, often filled by a manageable player. The studs play WLB or MLB. In Tampa, the SLB were guys like Alshermond Singleton and Shelton Quarles. In Minnesota, when Dungy ran the D, they used Carlos Jenkins and Broderick Thomas. In Chicago, it was Hunter Hillenmeyer. None of them were prolific playmakers, yet the defense in all cases were pretty good and opportunistic.
If they decide that McClain doesn't return, and they bring in a new MLB, I would prefer Jaylon Smith. He has better range than Jack, and has the benefit of not coming off of a meniscus injury, which is a big worry for career length (arthritis risk). Plus, it would give the Cowboys the added benefit of reuniting Jaylon Smith with his brother.
Jaylon smith being helped off field....
I heard it's an ankle. Hopefully it is and not a knee injury.
