If Heath is a stud safety, that would be incredible. But it would also look poorly upon the coaching staff.

I don't see anyone expecting 'stud'. The bar set by Church and Wilcox is pretty low.

Is it wrong to find encouragement in Heath's play last in the season? The guy almost won the Green Bay playoff game for us.

I think here's something that your scenarios fail to consider:
Maybe Jeff Heath has developed and improved after a few years in the league? Maybe at this point, he is better than Church or Wilcox? Or again, at least as good as those two average safeties were.

Ok, so after all this nonsense, you dont think Heath is anything more than average like the other cats? Sheesh.

Personally I think too many fans are getting caught up in his last game. Didnt see you as someone to fall for that.

I look forward to being wrong if it happens.

No, I think he's at least as good as the limbo bar they've set. Expectations are low.

But at least Heath gives you the ability to force turnovers and make big plays, something neither of the departed guys did.

I hope that clears it up and I'm not accused of "touting" anybody again.

Which way would you say the arrow for Heath is pointing? Up or down? Should he not be praised for a game where he had two interceptions and a sack (where any other QB in the league loses that football)?

I look forward to being wrong if it happens.

Are you sure? Because it's honestly sounding like you're rooting for failure.

I could care less about low bar safeties or scrubs who win starting jobs because we have no one else. I want a championship caliber defense and you need championship caliber defenders. You typically dont find those guys on your 3rd string bench or castoff FA pickups.

Rooting for failure? Talk about making up BS.

One reason Heath didn't see more playing time was because he was already signed to a special teams contract. They knew they would have to make some tough financial decisions on Church and Wilcox so they got the majority of playing time.

I think Heath will do just fine, I only question whether he can remain healthy for 16 games. Bill Bates started out as a special team stud and he developed into a pretty solid safety.

Actually teams have won with castoff free agents and 3rd stringers. Patriots are a prime example of that. Doesn't matter where they were drafted or how they were found....just find them.

And yet you somehow feel qualified to once again comment on things you - admittedly - "could care less about" and don't know what you're talking about?

I guess the sheer hypocrisy of that eludes you.

So teams cannot and never develop players? And players can never improve their craft? Did you just start watching football last year?

Rooting for failure? Talk about making up BS.

If Heath sucks, Cowboys are morons.
If Heath plays well, Cowboys are morons.

What would you call those comments? Cheerleading?

And any self-respecting Cowboys fan should know about the guys they had playing safety while they were winning Super Bowls, like Thomas Everett, Kenny Gant, and James Washington.

Somehow, their lack of pedigree didn't stop them From making plays or the Cowboys from winning Super Bowls?

I think championship rings and nostalgia have made those players better than they actually were. Perception is that they were really great, but reality was that they were serviceable/average. Rings make fans forget and/or overlook the player's deficiencies.. They're mainly remembered for helping to reach the pinnacle.

It'll be the same for Heath if we were to win a Super Bowl with him as a starter. He will be part of Cowboys folklore - whether he was the starter because they had "no one else", or not.

The point is that those Cowboys didn't need "great" safeties. And these Cowboys aren't replacing "great" safeties either.

Big plays in big games can make a player's name. Like James Washington, like Larry Brown. The fact is, that Heath missed a big game like that, by inches, through no fault of his own. He did his job - and then some.

Nice try spinner. Never said he will probably wind up being good. Only said that its either one of two ways:

1. Heath was never good enough to start and its all we have left
2. He was always good enough but Garrett was such a bad judge of talent he rotted on the bench.

So he either sucks, or Garrett is a moron.

Or.....

3. The kid developed and learned the NFL game is ready to now see significant playing time. You know, like the way it typically works?

Good gosh.

The Patrots win because of Brady and Bellicheck not their 3rd team scrubs. Last time I checked we had Garrett.

Try keeping up. Oh wait, you cant even remember what you say.

We will revisit this again throughout the year. Your on record as touting Heath, PAEA and Thornton.

LOL....You win with championship caliber players surrounding a few scrubs. You dont build your defense on them. Outside of Sean Lee, who would you consider a potential super star in the making?

So now you backup up your touting of scubs by pointing out that a team won with a few? Your now competing with homer logic at its best.
